The Integrated Aviation Solutions (IAS) Division currently has an opening for a Deputy Chief Engineer supporting a CONUS-based Operations, Sustainment and Development program. Leidos is the prime contractor on a 10-year single award indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract supporting the United States Army.

The Deputy Chief Engineer is charged with directly supporting the Chief Engineer to solve difficult and complex customer problems through information gathering and analysis, technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development and integration, verification and validation, and fielding. The Deputy Chief Engineer evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems. Duties include review and oversight of systems requirements, schedules, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition, integration, system testing, and quality assurance to ensure program requirements are met and Leidos engineering processes are adhered to. The Deputy Chief Engineer is an integral member and reports directly to the Chief Engineer while maintaining direct liaison Leidos Functional support personnel, U.S. Government customers, subcontractors and vendors.
This is a remote position with travel to Leidos, customer, and subcontractor facilities as required to meet program requirements and goals; normally <10%.
THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)
Knows customer’s current technologies and understands future requirements; identifies current system performance gaps and recommends platform agnostic sensor solutions for bridge projects and and programs of record
Leads the engineering team in evaluating new products, processes, integration standards and operational plans in support of existing and future airborne Intelligence Surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) technologies.
Maintains technical project budget accountability and reports engineering costs to the customer and Program Management.
Develop and maintain technical team resource allocation plan.
Communicates with U.S. Government (USG) customers, subcontractors and vendors and other external constituents as required; influences stakeholders and decisionmakers on policies, practices and procedures.
Provides oversight and technical direction for a large team of experienced professionals to manage multiple complex projects.
Leads, directs and reviews the engineering team’s work and the work of subcontractor teams.
And all other duties as required to support the Chief Engineer and ensure responsiveness of the program.
WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)
Requires a BA/BS and 8+ years prior relevant experience or master’s with 6+ years prior relevant experience and 4+ years’ experience supervising or leading teams or projects.
Possess an active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret with SCI clearance.
Experience determining solutions and providing direction for all phases of the Systems Development Lifecycle including design, integration, testing, deployment and sustainment of mission systems.
Experience developing airborne platforms and sensing systems for U.S. Government customers including experience with design, integration, and sustainment of Army Future Business Jet ISR platforms and sensor systems.
Ability to direct and oversee develop of project test plans and procedures; manage test planning and ISR systems test execution.
Proficient in investigating and determining root cause of product issues during testing and determine appropriate resolution.
Expert in selecting, developing, modifying, integrating, and evaluating sensors and rack mounted equipment and electrical components for airborne.
Effectively communicate with Leidos and sub-contractor functional leads, managers, and employees.
Experience reviewing technical documentation, to include but not limited to white papers, design reviews, ICDs, and engineering reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Be able to obtain a passport to travel internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with design and integration of Airborne ISR systems on Bombardier Challenger 650 and Global 6500 platforms.
Constructing airworthiness substantiation packages for new system configuration changes and development of airworthiness approach for integration of new systems
Previous experience leading Integrated Product Team Meetings between Leidos, USG and subcontractors.
Experience working with a geographically dispersed team.
Systems Modeling Language Model User Certified.
Proficient with Microsoft Project, MATLAB, JIRA, Windchill, and SolidWorks
PMP Certification

Pay Range:
Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
