Description: Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire control is seeking a dedicated and experienced Research Engineer at the Orlando, FL location. In this role, you will act as the Composite and Coating Lead, and you will report directly to the RAM/RODEC manager. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of activities related to the coating, fabrication, assembly, and integration of diverse test articles, radomes, missile bodies, nose cones, and other critical components.
What You Will Be Doing As the Research Engineer / Composite and Coating Lead, your expertise will be essential in refining assemblies on both Engineering and Production hardware, ensuring quality, compliance, and performance. As the lead in composite and coating processes, you will collaborate closely with internal teams, customers, and engineers to deliver innovative solutions, optimize lab operations, and meet rigorous testing and engineering requirements. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Interface with customers to establish sustained collaboration with lab capabilities.
• Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Aerobotix systems to mitigate and manage production risks.
• Assist in ensuring lab compliance to minimize waste, provide cost savings, and create improvement strategies to expand and maximize the footprint and opportunities.
• Lead composite and coating efforts, advising customers on quality lab practices to meet testing and critical engineering requirements.
• Provide material processing, application, and consultation support to engineers on various technical tasks, research, and integration.
• Evaluate specifications and work instructions, adapting or modifying existing hardware, equipment, and systems to meet work requirements.
• Perform non-recurring engineering (NRE) activities, including material measurements, spray events, coating studies, characterization, process verification, tooling, and material and equipment research, repair, and modification.
• Support the testing, qualification, selection, and failure analysis of materials.
• Provide low-observable coating support for program and non-recurring engineering (NRE) operations.
• Offer technical evaluations of coating applications.
• Assist in coordinating engineering activities with functional teams to meet program requirements.

Basic Qualifications:• Must have current Special Program Access and Secret clearance per business requirements
• Experience with coating, aircraft maintenance, equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance, rigging, material requirements
• Experience with specifications, requirements, blueprints, engineering drawings, and instructions
• Proficiency with the use of hand tools and spray gun, sanders, drills, shop saws, etc.
Desired Skills:• Project or program management experience; excellent information organization skills
• Aerobotix troubleshooting, tooling, and work instructions experience that support material application
• Experience evaluating process specifications, reports, and documentation
• Hands on experience working in a lab environment performing coating applications and process evaluations
• Experience with coating techniques and fluid delivery system troubleshooting
• Experience working with solvents, paints, composites, metallics, epoxies, coatings, pourable RTV, and adhesives
• Ability to lift up to 25lbs using proper lifting techniques; bend, stand and sit for extended periods
• Prior experience with maintenance on ships, aircraft, watercraft, subsystems, and/or rotorcraft
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.
Clearance Level: Secret with Investigation or CV date within 5 years

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
