Leidos Mission Assurance, is seeking a talented & skilled, early career Quality Engineer,to join our Space Systems team in Huntsville, AL. This exciting opportunity will play a critical role in ensuring mechanical and electrical manufacturing and assembly integration and testing of human spaceflight life support hardware meets all requirements. Primary responsibilities will be with the Laser Air Monitoring System (LAMS) which provides life support monitoring to NASA’s Orion spacecraft. Additional support will be provided to NASA’s Lunar Terrain Vehicle and other aerospace and defense programs.
Primary Responsibilities
Candidate will perform program quality planning, analyze program quality assurance requirements, develop inspection/test procedures and process plans, finalize source inspection checklists, coordinate & review nonconformance documentation, and support root cause/corrective actions & Material Review Boards. Other key duties include reviewing AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation, working with DCMA and other government quality assurance agencies, collection and reporting of quality metrics, reviewing and approving new drawings, supporting project managers during design and manufacturing readiness reviews, and conducting supplier surveillance audits.
Some travel will be required, typically no more than 10%.
Basic Qualifications
- Candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent degree with 4-8 years of relevant experience or a Masters degree with 2-6 years of relevant work experience. In lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 8 years of experience in quality assurance under an AS9100 system or equivalent experience in DOD or aerospace quality control
Experience working with non-conforming material, performing failure analysis, identifying root cause and implementing corrective actions.
Candidate must have experience writing work instructions, procedures, and implementing Quality Management System documentation associated with ISO9001/AS9100.
- Ability to review and interpret contract quality clauses, print requirements, and technical data and be able to develop and document appropriate quality verification responses, procedures, plans, and work instructions, including AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
- Must be proficient with standard inspection and measurement equipment, i.e. micrometers, calipers, multimeters, magnification, black light inspections, etc.
- Candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.
- The position requires candidates to be capable of performing with minimal supervision in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams & sub-tier partners.
- Must be able to pass an eye exam for visual inspection
- Candidates must be a resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to the area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated technical experience supporting development or production of human spaceflight systems, Environmental Control Life Support Systems, or avionics.
- Knowledge and/or experience with working in a cleanroom environment
- Experience with ISO/AS9100 type audits & surveillance reviews of sub-tier partners
- Experience and working knowledge of J-STD-001GS, IPC 610, and IPC620S Standards
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

Pay Range:
Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00
