The Composites Material Application Lead Engineer (MAE) is responsible for the selection, qualification, and application of materials and processes used in the manufacturing of aircraft engine hardware, with a primary focus on composite materials and polymer matrix composite (PMC) processes. This role is critical throughout the entire lifecycle of aircraft engine components, from New Product Introduction (NPI) design and development to field operation and service maintenance.
In this role you will work both independently and with various teams to resolve composite issues related to new product introduction, production, and field service. You will be a part of a global MAE team and will cooperate with other departments across the company.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
Responsible for engine parts supplier qualification
Recommend approaches to solve materials and manufacturing process-related issues utilizing current best practices.
Provide technical consultation on composite materials and manufacturing process-related topics.
Support GE internal and external customers, and suppliers as required
Partner with Program Leadership, Supply Chain, Quality, and Systems to advise on the adoption of new Materials and Process technologies
Resolve new material technology introduction challenges with Supply Chain and Research Groups.
Partner with Senior Technical Leadership and TRL/MRL Leaders to select concepts from our material systems roadmaps and help guide the implementation of early technology projects.
Collaborate with horizontal teams (materials, design, manufacturing) to advance the technical maturity of new composite material technologies using the TRL/MRL process.
Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and materials science to develop new composite material systems with desired performance and processing characteristics.
Qualifications:
BSc or MSc in Materials Engineering or a related field.
Strong experience in an engineering position.
Good understanding of non-metallic materials.
Knowledge of manufacturing methods related to PMC components.
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Good level of English.
Desired characteristic:
Experience with materials application engineering, materials development, and/or engineering program management.
Experience and knowledge of composite materials, preferably related to supporting the manufacture, design, and testing of PMC components. CMC knowledge and/or experience would be an asset.
Experience and knowledge of organic polymer chemistry.
