About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to join the Advisor Gateway development organization in Wealth and Investment Management Technology (WIMT). You will be part of the team building the platform that will deliver over 150 applications representing the WIM business. You will join a team of elite engineers driving standards, reusable architectures, and integration services across a multi-channel framework. The role will entail development, support of L1 and L2 triaging and working on innovation projects, combined with implementation of DevOps practices and enterprise architecture standards for APIs. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, track risk and partner with teams to drive the future state of the WIM business.
This Principal Engineer will work with Technology Product Owners, other principal engineers, and applications teams to identify and implement solutions that advance our strategy. As a key engineering leader, you will also collaborate with WIMT and Wells Fargo Technology key stakeholders to assess product gaps and ensure identification and delivery of product offerings that achieve desired business value, key outcomes, and enable continued adoption. You will mentor and guide a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high-quality deliverables. You will also conduct code reviews, identify areas for improvement, and enforce coding standards to ensure the highest level of software craftsmanship. Additionally, you will ensure adherence to Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) by meticulously integrating performance, security, and scalability considerations into the design and implementation of software solutions and act as a key transformation agent to help the team learn and develop CI/CD capabilities and advance the team through a defined CI/CD maturity model.
In this role, you will: - Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
- Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
- Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
- Provide vision, direction, and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommend innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
- Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
- Define and drive the vision and strategy for Enterprise APIs & the Enterprise API platform
- Define, refine, manage, and prioritize the API engineering & SRE backlog
- Enterprise ownership of Enterprise API Standards & API Governance
- Establish and drive the Enterprise API & Platform product roadmap for 12 and 24 months
- Drive continuous improvement of each stage of the API lifecycle to improve API product quality, speed of delivery, speed of consumption and non-functional requirements (NFRs) including performance, scalability, resiliency, and security
- Hire, manage and coach Enterprise API engineers and SRE
- Deliver a private API Marketplace to drive the adoption of API products
- Design the Enterprise API standards for REST APIs and full lifecycle API Management
- Architect and implement end to end, highly available, highly resilient, and highly performant full lifecycle API platform on leading API Solutions like Apigee and Azure
- Design client onboarding process and API onboarding process
Required Qualifications: - 7+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 7+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on API design, development, and integration
- 5+ years of experience with Agile, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD), DevOps concepts
- 5+ years of leadership experience with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams (on and offshore) and mentor junior engineers
Desired Qualifications: - 4 + years of experience with Azure, PCF (Pivotal cloud foundry) or a combination of both or other cloud technologies
- 4+ years of experience with Jira software, Confluence software, Draw.io
- Technical and business architecture experience
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- Working experience in designing, architecting applications for deployment into one or more cloud (GCP, Azure) environments
- Working experience with API Portals, Gateway, MuleSoft, Apigee, and Azure API Management

Pay RangeReflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
$144,400.00 - $300,000.00
