Job Summary:
The preneed funeral agent is responsible for assisting clients in planning and funding funeral services before they are needed. The agent educates clients about available funeral and cremation options, prepares personalized prearrangement plans, and helps establish financial arrangements to fund future services. This role involves a combination of sales, customer service, and financial planning skills to guide clients through what can be an emotional and complex decision-making process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Consultations:
- Meet with clients in person, over the phone, or via video calls to discuss their funeral service preferences, personal values, and final wishes.
- Provide a compassionate, understanding approach to address client questions and concerns regarding funeral and cremation planning.
- Assist families in understanding the value and peace of mind offered by preneed arrangements.
- Education and Guidance:
- Educate clients on available preneed options, such as burial, cremation, memorial services, and related products (caskets, urns, etc.).
- Inform clients of local, state, and federal laws affecting preneed contracts and ensure they understand the terms and conditions.
- Offer guidance on personalization options that reflect the client’s personality, values, and beliefs.
- Sales and Marketing:
- Use effective sales techniques to present preneed services in a compassionate manner.
- Meet or exceed sales targets through community outreach, hosting seminars, and participating in networking events.
- Generate leads by establishing relationships with community organizations, social groups, and businesses.
- Documentation:
- Complete and submit necessary documentation for preneed contracts, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Maintain accurate client records, including all prearrangement contracts and related financial documents.
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and confidentiality agreements.
- Stay informed of industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices in preneed planning.
- Follow-Up and Relationship Building:
- Follow up with clients periodically to address any changes in their plans or circumstances.
- Develop long-term relationships with clients and their families to provide ongoing support and guidance.
- Collaborate with funeral directors and other staff to ensure continuity and alignment between preneed planning and at-need services.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Required Education and Licensing:
- High school diploma or GED required or greater.
- State licensure as a Life Producer & Preneed Agent.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in sales, financial services, or customer service is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with funeral services or preneed insurance policies preferred but not required.
- Key Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy.
- Proficiency in sales and marketing strategies, including lead generation and closing sales.
- Financial acumen to discuss and manage prepayment options, insurance, and contracts.
- Organizational skills for managing client records, contracts, and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment and Conditions:
Preneed funeral agents work within funeral homes, mortuary offices, or remotely, depending on client preferences and organizational policies. Some travel may be required for client consultations, networking events, or community outreach. This position requires sensitivity to client emotions and readiness to handle a range of personal and cultural beliefs about death and funeral planning
