Description of the Division:
Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division (IBD) provides industry, regional and product expertise to corporations, institutions and government clients in order to advise our clients on strategic and financing matters. These solutions include initial public offerings; public and private equity and equity-linked financings; mergers, acquisitions and restructurings; defense advisory assignments; strategic partnerships; public and private debt placements; share repurchases; and hedging, swaps and derivative transactions.
Role Summary:
This is a highly dynamic, fast-paced role with global impact across the Investment Banking Division.
We are looking for self-motivated individuals with combined technical/quantitative skills and business expertise to identify and develop productivity, revenue generation, and risk reduction solutions for IBD globally.
Infra Strats work closely with the IT team, bankers, and senior stakeholders across the business to design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-performance systems. The successful candidate will be a member of a high-performing and dynamic squad residing within the business unit. They will focus on developing a strong understanding of banker workflows and translating that knowledge into large scale tools, collaborating closely with IT to design, develop, and deploy those solutions. This role offers the opportunity to blend deep full stack software development skills with an understanding of finance, data science, AI, and technology.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build and maintain robust infrastructure systems to support IBD workflows, including data pipelines, analytical tools and reporting dashboards.
- Develop and optimize APIs, internally developed solutions and database architectures to streamline data access and sharing across teams in the division.
- Implement automation solutions to reduce manual processes in data preparation, reporting and analytics.
- Partner with IT teams, bankers and Desk Strats to customize and deploy infrastructure solutions tailored to business needs.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement upgrades to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
- Drive technological advancements by developing libraries, conducting code reviews, identifying and mitigating system risks, and educating peers and desks on new technology solutions to improve efficiency.
- Own the full lifecycle of metrics development, including the process of data sourcing, data architecture design, implementation, and visualization.
- Explore new technology and identify opportunities to apply that innovation to technology projects within IBD.
- Gain expertise in investment banking processes and financial products to inform decision-making related to the responsibilities listed above.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering or Finance/Economics with deep software development experience.
- 1-6 years of work experience (7+ for VP).
- Proficiency in programming languages and tools, ideally Java, Python and/or C++.
- Competence with SQL/NoSQL databases, and experience with data-visualization platforms (i.e. PowerBI)
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Be able to work closely with other parts of IBD to understand specific business needs and with technology teams in the firm to deliver robust, effective solutions that meet those needs.

- Be accurate, paying careful attention to detail and working thoughtfully and independently.
- Escalate issues and risks to the supervisor in a timely fashion, whilst being able to effectively and actively ensure upward, downward peer communication of information and issues and risks.
- Knowledge of financial workflows, including capital markets, M&A and corporate finance is a plus.
- Prior experience in investment banking, management consulting or a similar analytical role is a plus.
- Vice President Additional:
- Be able to step back from details and select relevant information and tailor communication to your target audience.
- Be able to present complex ideas and associated costs for alternative solutions.
- Act as a leader and role model to the team and others in the division.
- Ensure risk is mitigated through documented process controls and adherence to escalation matrices.
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $85,000 and $140,000 per year for an Associate and between $145,000 and $250,000 per year for a Vice President, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
