Job Summary
Serves as primary contact for unit train customers and operations. Manages the overall unit train network working with Network Operations, field operations, resource providers, Sales and Marketing, Service Design, Car Management, and Mechanical Operations to meet customer requirements in the safest, most efficient, and cost effective manner. Coordinates, communicates, and executes a distribution plan that will meet customer demand and balance customer pipelines, while optimizing resource allocation and minimizing dwell times for cars and locomotives. Resolves or escalates tactical operational issues that may occur following service interruptions and / or during curfew work including curfew planning.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
- Understand and prioritize customer requirements and pipelines to expedite the movement of loaded and empty equipment through various gateways across the network. Establish realistic customer expectations based on network capabilities. Authorize trains and supervise the unit train network.
- Provide tactical support to field and Network Operations, including the re-routing of trains, monitoring of transportation management system, and authorization of train profiles. Assist division personnel to obtain necessary resources.
- Create, communicate, and ensure the implementation of commodity specific daily plan, proactively communicate service failures, and respond to service inquires to ensure attainment of all service related goals. Communicate with field and Network Operations personnel (including Crew Management and Locomotive Management) to ensure timely movement of all unit trains to destination. Provide daily reports identifying hot trains and customer issues as needed. Escalate issues that require the attention of senior management.
- Identify process improvement opportunities. Streamline required task and functions to provide better and more efficient service to our customers.
- Identify issues, determine solutions, resolve problems, or escalate obstacles preventing customer satisfaction. Monitor, coordinate, and communicate customer pipeline and capacity to determine and implement alternative actions.
- Optimize asset utilization to minimize car and locomotive dwell. Provide internal and external CSX status reports and serve as point of contact for unit train network issues.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers (internal and external) necessary for CSXT to achieve growth targets
- Lead and participate in various operations-based conference calls with Customers, Field Operations, Locomotive Management, Crew management, and Sales & Marketing team.Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 3 or more years of experience in Transportation, Logistics or Rail Operations
- 3 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics or Rail Operations
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 5 or more years of experience in Transportation, Logistics or Rail Operations
- 5 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics or Rail Operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 5 or more years of experience in Transportation, Logistics or Rail Operations
- 5 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics or Rail Operations
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of the Railroad industry
- Conflict management, coaching and problem resolution skills
- Written and oral communication skills

- Ability to communicate with all audiences including senior and executive leadership
- Ability to navigate in Unit train management system
