Job Description
The Corporate Counsel role is to act as a legal adviser with a focus on payments, finance and regulatory advice. Whilst a large part of the role will be advising on new and existing legislation, there will also be opportunity to advise on contract negotiations, new product creation and to engage with other divisions across U.S. Bank and its parent U.S. Bank National Association.
Additional responsibilities include: Engaging with industry organisations, and with external counsel and managing legal costs.
Accountabilities:
- Clear and timely advice regulations such as PSD2/PSR, DORA, CRDVI and CRR3 and any other European and local legislation which could impact the Bank in the jurisdictions where we provide services.
- Direct and oversee outside counsel throughout Europe.
- Review and assist in the implementation and rollout of US Bank internal policies and procedures throughout Europe so that all such policies conform to local law.
- Updating of contract templates and giving legal advice
Knowledge & Experience:
- Legal qualification in Europe (qualified as solicitor or barrister) for 2+ years PQE; and
- Practical experience within the EU; or
- Experience as corporate counsel
- Pan-European and previous regulatory or compliance experience highly regarded.

- Ability to interact effectively with staff at multiple levels in the organization.
- Excellent verbal and presentation skills.
- Effective writing skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to establish accountability for projects and issues within the business lines.
- Good grasp of key business-line functions and their impact on risk and profitability.
- Ability to learn and communicate key compliance related risk-management concepts.
