Senior Network Engineer
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for managing, designing, and improving Comerica’s enterprise network. He or she will assist network architects with design and implementation of network technologies. This role is responsible for providing guiding principles and leadership to engineering teams as well as offering proactive assistance on project-based activities. General duties include leading buildout of solutions and driving innovation for incorporating new modern technologies in the enterprise network. Partners with management and other engineers to drive infrastructure modernization projects to completion and provides Level3 technical support using extensive technical background to take on work assignments the team is engaged in. Strong people skills and the ability to balance/prioritize between multiple tasks and projects are essential. This position does involve both routing and switching as well as network implementation projects for both on-prem and cloud infrastructure.
The ideal candidate would have experience in network design, implementation, management, and documentation of medium-large scale enterprise networks, be familiar with datacenter technologies (Nexus Dashboard, Cisco ACI), have experience with switching (Catalyst Center) / routing/ Wi-Fi and Firewall/VPN on Cisco platforms as well as RemoteAccessVPN/AnyConnect on Firepower/ASA clusters and tweaking their integration with NAC solutions (Cisco ISE). Cloud networking experience is also desirable (AWS, Azure, GCP) with existing familiarity with on-prem to cloud connectivity solutions (BGP peering, Cloud Exchange, etc.). SolarWinds use for compliance, configuration management and monitoring, LiveAction or LibreNMS monitoring is also desirable. CCNP Enterprise (R&S) knowledge level required, CCIE nice to have.
The Senior Network Engineer is expected to work collaboratively across a variety of business units to implement new technologies, coordinate and take lead of assigned projects in all technical and communication aspects, lead engineering peers towards achieving common goals in assigned projects, and coach peer engineers and effectively perform knowledge transfer/cross-training activities. The ability to take ownership of a project and execute it from 0 to 100% with little to no supervision, while interacting with multiple departments/teams that may hold certain keys to project completion is critical to achieving success in this role.
Position Responsibilities:
Design and Methodology
- Utilize infrastructure engineering and research design methodologies appropriate to the development/test/production environment.
- Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
- Develop automated test solutions, Infrastructure as Code, and manage scripted code.
- Perform configuration and maintenance of applications and servers.
- Support enterprise application performance management, monitoring and logging solutions.
- Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
- Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
- Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
- Perform assigned in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
- Test and deploy updates and upgrades to systems to remain in line with manufacturers and recommendations.
Technical Consulting
- Troubleshoot and resolve first and second level network and wireless issues.
- Present recommendations for engineering endpoint solutions and exercise independent judgment while developing understanding of the process, policies, and risk controls.
- Troubleshoot and support systems and applications across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Communicate with engineers, product team, and management to provide timely and accurate information and status updates.
- Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
Risk Management
- Proactively share information regarding risks and opportunities to build competitive advantages and create efficiencies.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare system performance statistics and reports.
- Ensure all production services are replicated and maintained within a disaster recovery site and that the failover process is documented and tested.
- Ensure infrastructure security, perform regular checks, and establish disaster recovery solutions.
- Assist as needed during crisis and incidents and provide on-call support during non-business hours daily and/or as needed.
Administration/Support
- Collaborate with IT and Business teammates in an agile development environment.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering or in a Technology related field OR equivalent through a combination of education and/or technology experience OR 12 years of technology experience
- 5 years of experience in Infrastructure engineering and Solutions
- 5 years of experience analyzing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and determining root causes
- 4 years of experience with storage technologies (SAN and NAS)
- 4 years of experience with network technologies (firewall, routing, LAN, WAN, DNS)
- 4 years of experience with application and web servers (e.g., IBM Web Application Server, IBM Internet Hosting Server, and Apache Tomcat Server)
- 4 years of experience in SSL technologies
- 4 years of experience with server virtualization technologies (VMware ESX Server, Citrix XenApp Server, Microsoft Hyper-V)
- 4 years of experience with Knowledge of Cloud foundry technologies
- 4 years of experience with relational databases (SQL, MYSQL, Oracle)
- 4 years of experience with system monitoring and Log Analytic tools (Splunk, Elk, MoogSoft)
Licenses/Certifications:
- Preferred, AWS Certification
- Preferred, OpenStack Certification
Category C - Days in the office will either be designated days or will vary week to week from 2-5 days
8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday
