SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Director, Pricing and Ancillary Strategy is responsible for creating pricing and ancillary architecture to drive revenue growth. This role closely interfaces with RM, E-commerce, Loyalty, and other commercial and technology teams. Collaboration with other groups is critical when creating new offers, fare structures, customer segments and then retailing/merchandising these offers. This role is key in the delivery of the ridership and revenue goals of the Annual Operating Plan. Nearly 100% of Amtrak ticket revenues are directly attributable to the pricing elements managed by the Director, Pricing & Ancillary Strategy.
The Director regularly reports to senior management and other Departments on the status of Pricing. This role has both strategy and operations components and includes leading staff responsible for both pricing strategy and analytics, and pricing operations.
Amtrak has taken initial steps towards implementing a NextGen Reservation System that will directly impact the Pricing department workflows and strategies. This role will be a key stakeholder in this and other technology projects. As the landscape continues to change, this role will need to ensure staff continue to learn/retain technical expertise necessary for their roles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Oversee Pricing Strategy & Analytics team, leveraging their analysis and data science skills to generate insight and algorithms helpful to pricing strategy
• Direct Pricing Operations team in the maintenance of Amtrak’s tariff (fare plans, discount codes, passenger types, etc.) and policies
• Develop, implement, and monitor Pricing strategies to improve Amtrak’s revenue and ridership
• Oversee and maintain positive working relationship w/ Revenue Management, Marketing, State-Supported, Reservations, Digital Technology and other internal/external stakeholders
• Foster an open, positive working environment where discussion and debate are welcome
• Own and drive Amtrak’s Pricing and Ancillary strategies and develop roadmap with current and future capabilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Data Science or similar focus (or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience)
• Minimum 9 collective years in a Pricing & Revenue Management capacity
MIMINUM KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
• Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills
• Proved track record of pricing strategy development and innovation
• Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills
• Self-starter with demonstrated strengths managing multiple projects simultaneously and driving them to completion with limited direction
• Proven skills at cultivating strong working relationships and driving collaboration across multiple business and technical teams
• Proven ability to influence; able to work with business partners who may have competing goals while maintaining productive relationships
• Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
• Strong written and oral communication skills, able to explain complex concepts simply
• Detail-oriented and able to prioritize and meet multiple competing demands
• Ability to create well-formatted, impactful presentations and present to senior and C-level leadership
• Advanced understanding of PRM philosophies and their relationship to supply and demand
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• MBA or other advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Economics
• 10+ years leadership experience in a commercial work environment
• 10+ years’ work experience in a commercial and pricing environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• This role can be filled in a hybrid capacity.
• Fast-paced, deadline-driven, time-sensitive environment with frequently changing priorities
• Occasionally required to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and set up equipment
• Up to 20% travel may be required to meet with internal/external stakeholders

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $163,000-$211,140. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
