Corvid Technologies is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Prototyping Laboratory Technician to join our team in Mooresville, NC. We specialize in end-to-end high-tech solutions from design-to-prototype-to-test for Prime contractors such as Boeing, Raytheon (RTX), Lockheed Martin, etc.... Government sponsors in the Department of Defense for all branches of the armed forces including the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), United States Special Operations Command (USSOCCOM), and Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), etc.... as well as the Department of Energy national labs including Sandia National Labs (SNL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), etc.... and public institution sponsors and private industry customers such as NASCAR, U.S. Bobsled, UNC at Chapel Hill, etc.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the development of prototype materials and devices, performing essential chemistry tasks, and assisting in testing prototypes onsite in Corvid's ballistics and energetics lab as well as offsite at one of our vendor sites around the country. This position involves collaboration with multiple teams on a variety of short-term projects, requiring flexibility and creativity. Onsite daily training provided as needed.
Requirements:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD U.S. security clearance as needed
- High school diploma or GED required
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Associate degree in a technical field is preferred
- Willingness to assist offsite with a team at remote testing facilities
- Typically a few days to a week or two at a time a few times a year
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with chemical handling
- Experience with metalworking and/or carpentry
- Knowledge of small arms and smokeless powders
- Experience operating gas or powder ballistic guns
- Knowledge, experience, and/or certification in hazardous materials handling and safety
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform basic chemistry tasks for developing prototype materials
- Assist in fabricating various prototype structures and devices
- Assist in setup, execution, data collection, and clean-up supporting various test programs:
- Ballistics testing
- Blast chamber testing
- Miscellaneous sub-scale testing
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure proper handling of materials
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment
- Document all procedures and results accurately
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to achieve project goals
