Chief Technical Architect
The Chief Architect (CA) will work closely with Senior Technology and Business Leadership teams to understand key business objectives and use these to evolve the domain architectures and roadmaps based on strategic business and changing operating models. This position is responsible for the strategic architecture and solutions that embody the immediate and long-term needs / vision of our business partners and customers. As a technical expert and authority within the industry, this position applies leadership and advice on multiple technologies; develops and maintains reusable enterprise platforms and patterns, and drives standardization, simplification and integration in our technical strategies and embodiment in subsequent projects.
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic and Technical Acumen
- Drive technical direction, roadmaps and development priorities and strategies to meet business objectives with existing or emerging technologies.
- Ability to translate business concepts to technical terms.
- Maintain an ongoing awareness of emerging trends and developments in technology.
- Participate in external standards organizations, consortiums and user groups.
- Plan and drive short and long term strategies for retiring certain legacy tools, technologies, and applications.
- Drive agenda and execution of Comerica Innovation Lab. Includes vendor relationships, POC/demo prioritizations.
- Ensure IT technology and service strategy is in alignment with the long term strategic goals of the business.
- Evaluate and recommend enterprise platforms & capabilities (cloud and non-cloud) based on corporate strategy and enterprise needs.
- Provide subject matter expertise in technology domain areas (e.g. cloud, CRM, integration, security, business process management, mobile, etc.).
- Lead cloud community of practice for assessing all new cloud service requests in AWS and Azure.
- Work with early stage start-ups and emerging technology vendors to assess alignment with Comerica's tech strategy and corporate goals.
- Lead and conduct technology governance of enterprise solutions via Architecture Review Process (ACE) reviews and Enterprise Architecture Principles Assessment & Scores.
- Lead technology strategy & roadmap for key domain centric apps
- Lead enterprise and domain centric business process, supporting applications and capability mapping
Business Acumen and Consulting
- Consult and collaborate with Technology and Business Leadership Teams to map business imperatives to technology strategies.
- Apply innovative/creative approaches to determine technical solutions that further Business Goals.
- Keep abreast of industry and regulatory changes and anticipate technological evolutions that could be leveraged to enhance current architectures and build durable new ones.
- Assist in the financial management of the department fiscal plan.
- Reduce IT costs and enhance IT agility through technology standardization, reuse, and complexity reduction.
- Lead the development of reference architectures for enterprise technology capabilities and their usage in domain centric apps.
- Lead high availability and disaster recovery architecture direction for cloud and non-cloud applications.
- Conduct financial and estimation reviews, vendor contracts/SOW reviews as required.
- Provide technology input for business case development and annual portfolio planning.
- Provide solution architecture and design guidance aligned with EA direction and contextualized to domain app design concerns.
Leadership/HR
- Direct daily supervision, development and mentoring of Enterprise Architecture team.
- Liaise with DevOps/development, and engineering teams to ensure project implementations embody architectural principles.
- Create and elevate architecture organization to industry leading maturity.
- HR administration including evaluations, performance improvement and compensation recommendations.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university and 10 years of technical experience, or 15 years of technical experience
- 7 years of Technology Architecture experience
- 7 years IT program / project management experience
- 5 years of experience in translating business needs into solutions
- 5 years of experience in defining strategic visions and identifying tactical solutions that supports them
- 5 years of experience in estimating the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives
- 5 years of experience with multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
- 5 years of experience evaluating and recommending cloud-based solutions and capabilities
Category C - Days in the office will either be designated days or will vary week to week from 2-5 days
8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday
