Moon Valley Nurseries (MVN) is looking for an Inventory/Merchandising Specialist to guide and oversee overall inventory controls and ensure that merchandise is ready for sale as it leaves the farm. The Inventory/Merchandising Specialist will work under the direction of MVN managers to ensure all merchandising is done in accordance with MVN standards and guidelines.
- Provide inventory management and order fulfillment oversight and support to the company by adhering to established MVN standards and guidelines for inventory.
- Maintain best-of-class presentation and resolution of merchandising and inventory issues or exceptions, including appropriate identification, remediation, and communication.
- Coordinate the receipt and distribution of merchandise between MVN stores and outside vendors.
- Ensure that all outgoing stock is barcoded and stickered correctly, including that boxes are accurately marked with the appropriate Spec Size and that hang tags are displayed at eye level on every tree variety that has a hang tag.
- Communicate with the Yard Superintendent and General Manager regarding all products or materials received, transferred, bumped, spoiled, dumped, and/or any suspected shrinkage.
- Maintain supply of sign holders, ink tag, and barcode supplies and equipment, etc., ensuring that all equipment is in working order and accounted for
- Perform spot-checks to ensure accuracy of inventory levels and conduct regular aisle audits, cycle counts and physical inventories by comparing inventories with OpSuite/RMS records.
- Verify OpSuite data with physical count of stock, adjust computation errors, and investigate and report reasons for any discrepancies.
- Coordinate process of taking annual physical inventory
- Work with the sales team to make sure they are ringing in SKUs correctly and accurately.
- Work closely with Logistics Specialist(s) and adhere to all customer and delivery requirements.
- Work closely with Logistics and Planting crews on reschedules and product rejections and/or substitutions.
- Prepare daily and weekly reports on inventory exceptions, shortages, pulls, mislabels, etc., and report any issues to managers.
- Complete data entry, paperwork, signage, and staging relating to merchandise.
- Generate sold reports, bump reports, and exception reports for the General Manager and managers.
- Appropriately escalate any sales exceptions
- Other duties and tasks as assigned and needed.
- At least one year of inventory control or comparable retail experience strongly desired
- Basic proficiency in using computer software applications.
- Attention to detail with a passion for working with numbers.
- Ability to engender trust and earn respect with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Aptitude in decision-making and problem solving.
- Ability to collaborate with others to accomplish goals.
- Experience with Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications; OpSuite; Microsoft RMS, and other inventory control software.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands; establish and execute priorities; and meet deadlines.
- Clear and effective communication and documentation skills
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Related experience, training or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience will be considered.
This role routinely uses standard office and sales equipment such as computers, calculators, and barcode readers, working in a combination of a basic office environment and an outdoor nursery. The position is active and may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must be able to use stairs and frequently reach for, pull, and lift items weighing up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. intermittently. The employee must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in possibly extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
