The mission of the Talent Marketplace team is to help LinkedIn’s members seek job opportunities, customers to find best candidates while creating economic value to the platform. This team is at the center of the largest LinkedIn business line to drive billion-dollar-level business impact and hundreds of millions of members find their next job, a complex problem-space with exciting opportunities to revolutionize the digital job marketplace. We develop cutting-edge AI technologies with a wide range of technologies such as deep learning, generative AI, large language models, recommender systems, ranking, search, advertising, auction theory and much more in our solutions, and support many areas of member and customer success within LinkedIn including Jobs-You-May-Be-Interested-In (JYMBII), Job Search, Jobs Notifications, LinkedIn Coach, etc. We closely partner with products, engineering and infrastructure teams to build the next generation AI-first product experience for our members.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be one of the overall technical leads of Marketplace for Seekers and Jobs, covering a broad area of marketplace solutions that optimize for member, customer and platform values. You will guide the team on the next-generation digital jobs marketplace, advancing state of the art machine learning algorithms to help build the next-gen AI models to power various marketplace pillars. You are expected to deliver significant AI-powered marketplace improvement and have a direct impact on LinkedIn's top line metrics. You will closely work with product and engineering partners (at the level of Senior Directors+ and Principal Engineers+) to define and shape product and technical strategies for LinkedIn’s iconic jobs business. You have the opportunity to directly influence LinkedIn’s senior leadership (including C-level executives) with your technical expertise. You will be able to work with other senior leaders and senior individual contributors across LinkedIn to shape the company’s culture and values. You are also highly encouraged to have a strong external presence and publish/present your innovation in top tier conferences and journals.
Responsibilities
- Deliver impact by driving innovation while building and shipping software at scale
- Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to up-level the engineering organization
- Actively improve the level of craftsmanship at LinkedIn by developing best practices and defining best strategies
- Design products/services/tools and code that can be used by others while upholding operational impact of all decisions
- Identify problems and opportunities and lead teams to architect, design, implement and operationalize systems
- Work closely with and influence product and/or technology partners regularly to help define roadmap
- Resolve conflicts between teams within the organization to get alignment and build team culture
- Review others’ work and share knowledge
Basic Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions
- 10+ years experience programming languages such as Java, C/C++, Python, etc.
- 5+ years in an architect or technical leadership position
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics or related fields
- 12+ years’ experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions
- 7+ years in an architect or technical leadership position
- 5+ years experience in Hadoop, Cosmos, Spark or MPI with solving big data problems
- 5+ years experience in SparkML, TensorFlow or PyTorch with solving AI problems
- Strong academic credentials with publications in tier-1 journals and conferences
- Strong experience in designing and optimizing AI solutions for multi-sided marketplaces such as Advertising and E-commerce.
- Experience in designing and optimizing recommender and/or search systems that create highly personalized experiences for LinkedIn’s members and scale to solve complex business problems
- Experience in leading large scale development projects from concept to multiple releases in production
- Experience of technical leadership guiding and mentoring top engineering and operations talent
- Experience leading high-impact, cross-company initiatives
- Experience with deep learning, LLMs, graphs/graph mining, ranking, auction theory, optimization, CausalML.
- Expert in Advertising, Generative AI, Information Retrieval, Knowledge Graph, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to work with peers in engineering and product management across teams to set technical and product directions

The pay range for this role is $218,000 to $357,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
