Job Summary:
This position leads Estimator personnel who are required to work closely with Controls Account Managers, Project Managers, sub-contractors, and material suppliers to ensure timely completion of a detailed cost estimate. This is a remote within the region position coordinating work between four area offices around the Pacific Northwest Rocky Mountain Region including Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming. Where is the work:
This position has been designated as Remote within geography, and work will be performed Bellevue and Denver.
What you will do:
- This job leads Controls Estimator personnel. Carries out management/leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Manages weekly coordination of projects across the Region.
- Performs 1 on 1 meetings with supervised personnel monthly.
- Performs annual performance reviews with supervised personnel.
- Maintains Standard work such as estimating templates, labor rates, product selection, subcontractor and contingency in coordination with the Regional Controls Sales Leader.
- Responsible for overseeing the cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities created by Controls Estimator personnel to assist Controls Account Managers in bidding on or determining price of project.
- Assists Controls Estimator’s in supporting Controls Account Manager with determining the need for out-sourced engineering involvement. May directly perform estimating costs while overseeing estimates on other projects.
- Develops detailed scope based on Controls Account Managers design-build scope.
- Creates detailed cost estimate based on detailed scope.
- Responsible for the take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.
- Responsible for identifying possible cost saving opportunities and/or risk items that will occur on various projects.
- Maintains competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards.
- Maintains Customer Relationship Database (CRM) with accurate opportunity creation and supports sales team on keeping the data current and relevant.
- Develops the scope of work for sub-contractors.
- Optimizes job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for materials/services.
- Documents work by maintaining files for each job.
- Responsible for holding job pre-bid meeting with Account Managers to review scope, strategy, etc.
- Creates detailed cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposal, vendor/sub-contractor quotes, and points list.
- Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
What you will bring:
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology with minimum of 3 years' experience in estimating, engineering, construction management; or associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology or business management or three (5) year experience in estimating, engineering or construction management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of all facets of construction including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, etc.
- Ability to communicate (verbal, written) effectively with others.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to operate computer keyboard, and telephone. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- On occasion may be required to visit customer job site and may be required to climb a ladder to view equipment on a roof or in a mechanical room.
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $120,900 - 152,500
Total compensation for this role will include an incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
