The primary role of the Captain, i.e. Pilot-in-Command (PIC), at Lowe's is to provide safe and efficient air transportation in support of Lowe's Companies, Inc. and its subsidiaries. Operational guidelines are outlined in The Lowe's Companies, Inc. Aviation Operations Manual (AOM), and this candidate must comply with mandatory FAA rules and regulations. Responsibilities include weather briefings, fuel planning, filing of flight plans, transportation logistics and ensuring the safety of all passengers, crew and cargo. This role is critical to Lowe's Aviation because adequate staffing allows for efficient utilization of the existing fleet to enhance transportation of key decision makers to conduct critical company business. This role includes ancillary duties to be shared by other Captains within the Aviation Department.
What will you do
- When assigned as PIC, administratively and operationally has direct responsibility for all crew members and ensures that all crewmembers have a clear understanding of what duties they are expected to perform.
- Ensures that flight operations are conducted in accordance with the Lowe's Aviation Operations Manual, CFRs, regulations of foreign countries and Lowe's company policies.
- Delegates duties necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft to the Second-in-Command.
- Acts as Pilot in Command (PIC) and has the final authority in the operation of the aircraft.
- Ultimately responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flights to which they are assigned.
- Participates in the Safety Management System
- Ensures that the aircraft is airworthy and registered, and all required documentation is onboard the aircraft.
- Checks weather and all applicable NOTAMs where available, and determines fuel, oil, and oxygen requirements.
- Determines the aircraft weight and balance.
- Ensures databases are current.
- Ensures Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) are updated and adequately charged for the assigned flight.
- Ensures that all flight planning requirements have been met.
- Ensures that aircraft crewmembers have valid certificates, Medical Certificates, passports and visas, when required.
- Ensures that the flight will not be commenced if a crewmember is unfit to fly or incapable of safely performing duties by any cause such as injury, sickness, fatigue, or the effects of any psychoactive substance.
- Ensures that the flight will not be continued beyond the nearest suitable airport when a crewmember’s capacity to perform functions is significantly reduced by impairment of faculties from causes such as fatigue, sickness, or lack of oxygen.
- Confirms any nonstandard environmental rules and procedures at the intended departure and destination airports.
- Completes an aircraft preflight inspection before each departure.
- Provides the Passenger Safety Briefing to the passengers.
- Operates the aircraft per the Lowe’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and checklists, and within aircraft limitations.
- Continually monitors the amount of usable fuel to ensure a safe landing with appropriate fuel reserves and communicates with ATC during abnormal situations.
- Ensures compliance with customs, immigration, and cabotage laws.
- Completes all postflight duties, including notifying the Company of deviations to any planned itinerary, schedule, or overnight location.
- Records flight times and aircraft defects.
- Reports all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents to the Chief Pilot and/or Director of Aviation as soon as practical.
- Reports any act of unlawful interference to the FAA or State (Mandatory Occurrence Report), as appropriate, and to the designated local authority.
- As soon as possible, reports to the appropriate ATC facility any hazardous weather or flight conditions encountered that are likely to affect the safety of other aircraft.
- In the event of an accident / incident, preserves flight and cockpit voice recorder data.
- Notifies the appropriate authority, by the quickest available means, of any accident involving the aircraft (except where the PIC is incapacitated, when it will become the responsibility of the Director of Aviation or senior flight crewmember).
- All Captains will be assigned additional duties within the Aviation department in one of the functional areas listed below. These duties will be delegated by the Chief Pilot and responsibilities rotated amongst Captains in order to promote professional development. Some functions may have more than one Captain assigned at the same time to divide workload. The functional areas include, but are not limited to: Training, Standards, Data Management, International Operations, and Security.
Required Qualifications
- 2,500 Hours Total Flight Time (minimum) 2,000 Hours Multi-Engine
- Individuals in this job must be able to handle and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
- First Class Medical
