HDR is seeking a Solid Waste Project Manager with experience managing and performing technical work on solid waste and recycling projects in the greater NY/NJ Area area to join our nationally ranked team of professionals. Travel to other Northeast offices and client locations will be necessary.
This position will serve to support the growth of the solid waste program in the NY/NJ Area by bringing additional project management expertise to the team. We are looking for candidates interested in managing and supporting a wide array of projects primarily focused solid waste facilities design and operations, planning, feasibility studies, cost estimating, capital improvement support, and operational monitoring and support at all types of solid waste facilities including Waste-to-Energy (WTE), Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs), landfills, transfer stations, and organics processing facilities (compost/AD) across North America.
In the role of Solid Waste Project Manager General, we'll count on you to:
- Function as a project manager or technical lead on small to large solid waste projects. May be involved with the production and coordination of several projects concurrently.
- Establish client relations and work closely on marketing, client development, contractual, design and production activities.
- Coordinate staffing and workload allocations throughout the project development phases.
- Complete deliverables and milestones on schedule.
- Work closely with Business/Accounting Manager, Project and the Department Manager for project reviews.
- Comply with and implement company QA/QC procedures.
- Provide contract management support.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Supervises project staff and acts as mentor for less experienced solid waste technical staff and Project Managers.
- Work with Section Manager and waste client development leads to prioritize marketing targets.
- Develop marketing strategies and proposals for new and existing solid waste clients.
- Planning, directing and monitoring all aspects of solid waste engineering projects such as solid waste facilities, transfer stations, landfill and planning studies.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
Experience with NY state solid waste and recycling regulations required.
Experience managing projects for the New York City Department of Sanitation is a plus.
Experience with solid waste master planning, zero waste planning, and implementation of waste diversion programs is a plus.
Zero waste certification or experience preferred.
Experience with organics management and organics facility design is a plus.
Demonstrated understanding of client relationship management and evidence of experience interacting directly with clients higher preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- 7 years related experience
- A minimum of 2 years project management experience
- Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills

The expected compensation range for this position is $107,170 - $191,375, depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
