We have an exciting opportunity for a CAD Designer/Drafter to join our team with the Engineering Division.
** This is temporary role with a duration of 52 weeks. **
The CAD Designer/Drafter will:
- Support NASA Johnson Space Center’s activities on the International Space Station and space exploration.
- Work in a team environment to analyze requirements from the customer and develop design solutions.
- Design, develop, test, handle implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.
- Perform engineering design evaluations.
- Produce engineering drawings conforming to NASA/JSC JPR 8500 and other applicable standards.
- Perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis.
- Produce mechanical, electrical cable and softgoods drawings conforming NASA/JSC JPR 8500 and ASME Y14 standards.
- Prepare reports and present designs at various design reviews using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Support project meetings and create reports as required.
- Produce other required design documentation.
- Perform other duties as required.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Requisition Qualifications:
This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate’s experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
- Typically requires a HS Diploma or its equivalent and normally possess 12 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Must have the ability to produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5.
- Must have experience producing designs, develop, test, and handle implementation of technical products and systems.
- Must have design experience using solid modeling CAD software including working experience using PTC CREO.
- Must have experience using and applying GD&T.
- Must be able to multitask and work independently.
- Must have experience with Design Data Management Systems (DDMS).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient with MS office Products including MS Teams.
Requisition Preferences:
- AAS degree, Certification of two (2) years training from a vocational training school or two (2) years of college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering principles, plus an additional four to six (4 – 6) years of relevant experience. Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the progressive experience.
- Familiarization with NASA/JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (NASA/JSC JPR 8500).
- Familiarization with NASA/JSC Fabrication Tolerances and Practices SKZ36103755 or JSC-67701.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience designing flight hardware and creating drawings for NASA/JSC.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience using PTC CREO 5 or later.
- Minimum of 1 year experience using PTC Windchill. Minimum of 2 years’ recent experience using AutoCAD.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
