As a Marketing Director, you'll partner with the Nationwide Retirement Institute (NRI), an industry leading thought leadership organization focused on improving financial outcomes for Americans. In partnership with the NRI, your team will build financial professional targeted content marketing plans that generate interest in Nationwide, connect financial professionals to Nationwide specialists, and spark a need for Nationwide solutions. Your high-performing team develops and optimizes the marketing plans that drive financial services brand awareness, financial professional engagement, business integration and sales opportunities.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Marketing Leadership: Leads all aspects of creating breakthrough go-to-market strategies aligned to strategic business & enterprise priorities. Leads a team that drives measurable business outcomes by strategically informing, building, and aligning needs-based content marketing to Nationwide solutions. Includes active participation in the Nationwide Retirement Institute’s program development, optimization and prioritization forums.
Delivering Marketing Effectiveness and Value: Develops clear content marketing measurement plans and goals, inclusive of content library & event measurement, business aligned metrics, and ongoing measurement across all promotional channels. Recommends budget and needed marketing activities; secures necessary resources to execute marketing plans. Determines team learning plans, content governance procedures and evaluates ongoing effectiveness of marketing initiatives; adjusts accordingly.
Commitment to Disciplined Decision Making aligned to Business Needs: Uses primary and secondary market research, proprietary data and business inputs to inform a focused decision-making approach to content marketing strategy, resource prioritization and ongoing optimization. Considers competitive landscape, market environment, financial professional sentiment and needs, Nationwide’s simplicity value proposition, business objectives, and available data and resources to generate effective strategies tied to measurable business outcomes.
Champions Marketing Collaboration: Works across the Marketing organization to leverage investments and resources to develop and deliver business-aligned marketing strategies. Leads team to execute with a community mindset and encourages agility, adaptability, shared best practices and ongoing optimization. Drives alignment & integration with marketing peers leading financial services brand, product, firm and financial professional experience strategies.

License/Certification/Designation: Role requires FINRA Series 26, 6 licenses. Will be required to acquire within 120 days of hire. Technical insurance designations such as CPCU, CLU, ChFC, FLMI considered a plus.
Experience: Ten or more years of financial services marketing experience including insight generation, content development and go-to-marketing planning; Strong track record of leading high-performing and highly engaged teams; B2B marketing experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
In-depth understanding of financial services products, intermediated financial services distribution systems and core financial planning topics including retirement savings, retirement income, healthcare cost planning, longevity planning, estate and legacy planning, business owner planning, and planning for the needs of a broad range of diverse and underserved consumers. Must be skilled at storytelling, particularly within content and in activating content marketing. Strong verbal and written skills a must. Demonstrates excellent proficiency in core marketing competencies, including strategy development, utilization of insights and analytics, building brand equity and developing effective marketing communications. Demonstrated skills in leading a marketing program driven by data, including analysis, targeting and measurement. Skilled at being an inspiring leader; planning; prioritizing resources; being curious; and resourceful.

Leads team in the development and execution of strategies and plans that ensure long term sustainable growth of the business. Synthesizes data and uses this understanding to support identification and innovation of business building solutions.
Directs team responsible for leading projects and processes within area of responsibility to deliver results with multiple target completion dates and shifting priorities.
Oversees team that implements digital and traditional marketing tactics and media including creative development process, planning, and execution.
Leads creative development and provides feedback on look and feel. Develops strong creative briefs.
Monitors emerging innovative trends in content, design and marketing tactics
Reviews and analyzes customer insights, analytics and tools to understand and forecast market, competitor and customer needs and behavior. Helps to define appropriate target audiences, evaluate sufficiency, and effectively get results with data-based decisions.
Ensures programs are on strategy and on schedule; holds team accountable.
Hires and develops talent, provides consistent coaching and feedback, administers performance and compensation recommendations.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Report to Associate Vice President/Vice President; will manage a team of four or more Marketing professionals; may also lead a matrix and virtual teams.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration or related field; graduate degree preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Technical insurance designations such as CPCU, CLU, ChFC, FLMI considered a plus. Additional licensing may be required to hold this position; and associates will need to acquire the required federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the designated time period. Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails to acquire required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.
Experience: Typically, 10 or more years of related professional experience in marketing, insurance or related field. Masters or doctoral degree may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirements as appropriate. Previous management or project leadership experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth knowledge of marketing methodologies, distribution systems, and customers. Demonstrated knowledge of insurance and/or financial services products strongly preferred. Knowledge of project leadership concepts and methodologies. Command of verbal and written skills. Ability to develop and review research studies and communicate research findings, present market recommendations based on findings, develop and negotiate contracts/service agreements with internal/external contacts, lead market planning projects, and maintain relationships. Ability to lead and prioritize projects. Excellent ability to train, lead and mentor associates in all aspects of market planning. Demonstrates excellent proficiency in core marketing competencies, including strategy development, utilization of insights and analytics, building brand equity and developing effective marketing communications. Command of and ability to role model and deliver customer focus, operating capabilities, personal efficiency, strategic capabilities and build talent.
