The Senior Commercial Credit Analyst is a key contributor to the risk assessment of the bank’s commercial loan portfolio. This position requires advanced financial analysis skills and the ability to handle complex credit requests with minimal supervision. The Senior Analyst collaborates closely with portfolio managers, loan officers, and management to provide thorough recommendations that support sound credit decisions. This role also involves mentoring junior analysts, contributing to policy and procedures development, and enhancing departmental processes.
What will you be doing?
- Advanced Financial Analysis: Accurately spread, analyze, and interpret financial information on existing and prospective borrowers, providing detailed footnotes and commentary, with minimal supervision. Identify material variances in borrowers' financial statements and tax returns, obtaining additional information through direct communication with borrowers, CPAs, or financial advisors as needed, and leveraging industry sources or public records.
- Portfolio Risk Management: Conduct annual reviews of complex commercial loans to verify accurate risk ratings and evaluate borrower compliance with loan covenants. Identify and report any irregularities to portfolio managers and management, providing recommendations for appropriate actions. Maintain clear and proactive communication with borrowers for timely receipt of required financial reporting items.
- Credit Approval Presentations: Assist loan officers and portfolio managers in the preparation of credit approval presentations, renewals, and modifications, including recommended structures, historical analysis, projections, and approval/denial recommendations for the Internal Loan Committee and Director’s Loan Committee.
- Post-Close Compliance: Conduct post-close reviews on complex commercial loan transactions to confirm compliance with approval requirements.
- Mentorship and Training: Provide training to junior Credit Analysts on software tools, such as Buker Spreading, departmental processes, annual reviews, and reporting.
- Department Reporting: Prepare and maintain departmental reports, including summaries of recently completed annual reviews, risk rating change documentation, present value models for impaired loans, and meeting minutes for the Internal and Director’s Loan Committees.
- Policy and Procedure Contributions: Collaborate on updates to department policies and procedures, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
- Special Assignments: Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor to support departmental objectives.
Who will you lead?
- Although the Senior Credit Analyst has no formal direct reports, the position does perform some supervisory duties on a regular basis such as training other credit analyst, coordinating the distribution of work, and reviewing/editing their work in the early stages of their development.
What skills/qualifications do you need?
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.
Work Experience
- 5+ years of experience in credit analysis or credit underwriting of commercial loans.
- Preferred:
- Experience in analysis or underwriting of commercial loans to medical professionals or private bank lending
- Successful completion of formal bank credit training program
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Analytical Skills: High degree of attention to detail with the ability to accurately assess global cash flow using personal and business tax returns or customer-prepared financial statements.
- Accounting and Finance Expertise: Thorough understanding of accounting principles, cash flow, and finance concepts, including the calculation of payments, rates, amortization, and present value.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; certification preferred.
- Regulatory Acumen: Thorough understanding of regulatory compliance and best practices in credit risk management.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively present complex financial information clearly and concisely.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously with little to no supervision while developing creative solutions to challenges.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to mentor junior team members, foster collaboration, and promote a high-performing team environment.
