Position Summary:
The Plumbing Service Technician is responsible for leading complex plumbing installations, repairs, and maintenance while ensuring compliance with all local and national plumbing codes. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and leadership capabilities to train and mentor junior technicians. The Licensed Plumber must provide exceptional service, maintain a high level of professionalism, and ensure all work meets or exceeds safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and strong work ethic.
- Arrive at job sites on time and report to dispatch upon arrival and departure.
- Diagnose and repair complex plumbing issues, including slab leaks, main line backups, and water heater failures.
- Perform and oversee installations of water heaters (tank and tankless), water softeners, filtration systems, and other major plumbing fixtures.
- Install and repair water supply and drainage systems, ensuring compliance with all plumbing codes.
- Conduct thorough system inspections and preventative maintenance services.
- Work with various piping materials, including PEX, PVC, CPVC, copper, cast iron, and steel.
- Perform advanced soldering, brazing, and pipe joining techniques.
- Use specialized diagnostic tools such as video inspection cameras, hydro jetting equipment, and electronic leak detection devices.
- Handle gas line repairs and installations per safety regulations.
- Ensure proper permitting and code compliance for all plumbing projects.
- Educate customers on plumbing system maintenance, energy-efficient solutions, and upgrade options.
- Provide accurate job estimates and assist with project planning.
- Complete all necessary paperwork, including service reports and invoices, accurately and promptly.
- Maintain a clean and fully stocked work truck.
- Train and mentor junior and mid-level plumbing technicians.
- Uphold all company safety standards and industry best practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience:
- State of Illinois Plumbing License
- Minimum 4 years of residential plumbing experience
- Must pass drug and background screening.
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- Ability to safely operate plumbing tools and equipment
- Strong knowledge of local and national plumbing codes.
- Experience with water heater installation, repairs, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to diagnose and repair complex plumbing problems independently.
Preferred:
- Backflow prevention certification.
- Experience with hydronic heating systems.
- Light-Commercial plumbing experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Work in an environment consisting of extreme variations due to conditions, including but not limited to: heat, cold, wet, wind, sunlight, absence of light, insects, animals, mammals, reptiles and other conditions deemed by worksite
- Reaching, bending, stooping, walking, sitting, crawling, squatting
- Holding, carrying objects, and lifting – including heavy objects such as equipment up to 100 pounds
- Use of tools and equipment such as hand tools and ladders including extension ladders
- Use of vision abilities include, close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
- Must be able to speak and hear
- Must be able to work in small or confined workspaces
