Position Overview
Reporting to the responsible Construction Manager, this role will support work within the DNNP Balance of Plant and Conventional Island programs including, the Turbine Hall and Cooling Water Systems and associated auxiliary building and systems and interface with other areas. During the validation phase the Superintendent will assist in the construction planning and reviews. In execution they will be responsible for the supervision, coordination and scheduling of construction activities for multiple scopes of work in compliance with the contract and the job cost estimate and ensures all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship.
District Overview
Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. We serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada.
Location
The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Oshawa and surrounding areas, or willing to relocate. This project does NOT offer a rotation/TDY schedule /travel.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for work planning and execution on the project including methods of construction, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals and work schedules
- Ensure alignment and partnering with the alliance partners.
- Monitor and review Plans/Schedules and identify risks, and issues
- Utilize project master schedule to create detailed look ahead schedules for General Foreman.
- Responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of safety, quality and human performance programs
- Ensures that policies and project procedures are being adhered to and followed by project personnel
- Monitor and manage risks, develop recovery strategies when project schedule or budget are in jeopardy.
- Assume responsibility for productivity of direct hire trade labour and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and tools & equipment and contractual performance of the project
- Understanding and support of applicable trade agreements.
- Application of home company discipline policies and appropriate escalation of performance concerns to Construction Manager
- Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner specified requirements.
- Review and provide support in the creation of Construction Work Packages
- Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Construction Work Packages and project schedule and budget
- Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
- Ensure project is constructed in accordance with QA Programs and project quality
- Other duties as required or assigned
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform regular field tours to check work progress and meet with project site personnel.
- Carry out site safety inspections.
- Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and approve timesheets, expense reports, vacation requests, and training requests, within Limits of Authority.
- Responsible for performance management of all direct-report employees, including: coaching/mentoring, assistance with career planning and training, preparation of yearly and mid-year performance reviews
- Ensure all project staff and direct reports understand and comply with applicable code of conduct policies (Aecon and customer policy)
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years Mechanical or Electrical construction and subcontractor supervision experience
- Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as; technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements
- Must understand how to support a positive Safety Culture.
- Experience in managing complex industrial construction projects
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blue prints and specifications
- Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs #LI-GH
