The Opportunity:
The System Engineer will play a critical role in the development, integration, and certification of mission planning systems for Australian Defence Force (ADF) aviation platforms. The role requires extensive experience in aerospace engineering, software development, and regulatory compliance, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering artefacts within strict timeframes.
This role is well-suited for an experienced Defence Systems Engineer who thrives in a high-security, mission-critical environment and is committed to advancing aviation mission planning capabilities.
The key responsibilities of the role, but is not limited to:
Represent the organisation professionally and adhere to company policies, security protocols, and best practices.
Work collaboratively within a distributed team to develop and integrate mission planning products for Defence aviation clients.
Develop and deliver engineering artefacts to support ARH and MRH JMPS Unit Planning Components (UPC) development, certification, and transition, ensuring artefacts remain up to date with tested software.
Ensure configuration control is applied to the development, transition, and support of JMPS ARH and MRH UPCs and tools, following engineering management and Defence procedures.
Leverage expertise to improve workflows and certification activities through innovative engineering solutions.
Conduct risk and issues assessments to identify and manage technical project risks, ensuring reports are available for all stakeholders.
Apply engineering processes autonomously to software development activities, ensuring compliance with JC4ISPO’s Engineering Management System and ADF regulatory frameworks for formal product releases.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
Essential:
Minimum of five years’ experience as a System Engineer.
Strong understanding of MIL-STD-498 and/or DO-178C standards.
Expertise in Aviation Mission Planning and geospatial data.
Knowledge of software programming and development processes.
Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and workflows effectively.
Strong analytical skills with the capability to review and improve procedures and systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
NV1 Security Clearance
Desirable:
Experience working with the ADF in an aviation software engineering capacity.
Familiarity with European Military Aviation Regulations.
Knowledge of Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS) and Portable Flight Planning Software (PFPS).
Experience in System Acceptance Testing Procedure design.
