Description:This occupation requires multi-vehicle job knowledge concerning troubleshooting, tune up, repair, maintenance and overhaul of automotive and various types of powered industrial equipment.
Diagnoses problems and determines method of repair and/or replacement required. Tears down, checks for trouble, cleans, replaces, or repairs such systems as fuel, combustion, chassis and suspension, wheels and tires, braking, electrical and battery, hydraulic, coolant, and air conditioning among other things.
Performs such typical automotive work operations as diagnosing, repairing, overhauling or replacing all running gear components including engines, transmissions, and differentials. Complete overhaul of various types of equipment including gas, diesel, propane, electric, and hybrid powered; complete diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and overhaul of air conditioning systems; complete overhaul of such units as fuel-injection, carburetor, exhaust systems, turbo chargers, starter motors, hydraulic cylinders, stand-by generators, portable air compressors, and life safety fire protection pumps; as well as engine tune-ups.
To diagnose, repair, maintain, and overhaul automotive equipment and various type powered vehicles. To use hand tools, precision measuring instruments, electronic diagnostic equipment, and automotive equipment, tools, and gauges. To obtain and hold legally required certifications.
To apply a knowledge of automotive shop theory and practice. To read and interpret manufacturers’ specifications, diagrams, and charges. To use arithmetic including decimals and fractions.
Materials worked on: Automotive equipment and vehicles, as automobiles, heavy equipment, fire trucks, tractor-trailer vehicles, tugs, forklifts; electric trucks and golf carts; manlifts, power cranes, stationary engines, including their component parts, assemblies, and accessories.
Materials worked with: Miscellaneous repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance items including oils and fluids, filters, rings, pistons, gears, valves, pins, bolts, springs, screws, fittings, spark plugs, light bulbs; tap wire, gaskets, brake lining, flux, solder, abrasive compounds, rags, and cloth; lubricants, refrigerants, onboard control modules and computers, and batteries.
Tools used: Hand tools, special automotive hand tools and gauges, precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators and brake micrometers.
Equipment used: Ignition and other performance testing equipment, electronic diagnostic equipment, valve grinding and seating machines; drill presses and their accessories; dollies and hoists; bearing spinner and line boring bar; torches, hydraulic jacks, tire changing equipment, and refrigerant charging and recovery equipment.
Basic Qualifications:Five years of full-time experience within the last eight years in auto/truck/equipment repair. Experience to include gasoline and diesel engines found in all types of transportation apparatuses such as automobiles/trucks/heavy equipment.
Of the five years, two full years shall include general automotive repair and service to include minor and major repairs, i.e. maintenance, rebuilding and overhauling components, diagnosing drive-ability issues, electrical diagnosis, drivetrain repair/replacement, brake system diagnosis and repair, cooling system diagnosis and repair, suspension and steering and HVAC diagnosis and repair. In addition, two full years shall include heavy duty truck and/or equipment repair, i.e. road tractors, all-terrain moving equipment, forklifts, dump-trucks, street-sweepers, etc. These type repairs shall include maintenance, drivetrain repair/overhaul/replacement, hydraulic repair, electrical diagnosis and repair, cooling system diagnosis and repair, drive-ability issues, braking system diagnosis and repair, and pump repair and overhaul.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
