What does a successful Hardware Sustaining Engineer do at Fiserv?
Hardware reliability is critical to keeping our merchants up and running. You’ll play a hands-on role in maintaining and improving the hardware for our smart payment terminals and POS devices, ensuring seamless transactions for billions of dollars in payments. From field failure analysis to system verification and supply coordination, you’ll drive key initiatives that enhance product quality, ensure continuous supply, and solve complex technical challenges in production and the field. If you're passionate about improving hardware reliability and ensuring seamless payment experiences, we'd love to hear from you!
What you will do:
- You lead field failure analysis from end to end—digging into returns, uncovering root causes, and working with global teams to close the loop with corrective actions.
- You design and run real-world reliability tests that push our hardware to its limits—so we catch issues before our merchants ever do.
- You collect, analyze, and report on field performance data like AFR and ATR, helping us track quality and reduce the need for swaps or returns.
- You develop and maintain a worldwide repair network, defining smart processes for refurbishment, repair, and tracking performance through data.
- You investigate and resolve complex hardware issues in production and in the field, performing hands-on failure analysis and driving permanent fixes.
- You partner with supply chain teams to ensure smooth component flow, qualify alternate sources, and support repair and remanufacturing efforts.
- You bring insights from field failures back to the drawing board—helping shape future product designs with real-world feedback.
- You collaborate on hardware/software integration, ensuring updates to the OS or firmware don't disrupt performance in the field.
What you will need to have:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science.
- 7+ years of experience in hardware systems, preferably in high-volume consumer electronics.
- Strong data analysis skills to identify trends in field reliability reports and set priorities.
- Expertise in design verification, reliability testing, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven track record of shipping products and driving hardware updates with offshore manufacturers.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting digital, analog, and power-related designs at both the component and system level.
- Knowledge of wireless mobile device hardware, including displays, batteries, sensors, and communication protocols (3G/4G/LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi).
- Proficiency with electronics test equipment and RF measurement tools.
