Job Title:
Safety & Training Manager – Life Sciences
Location:
Portsmouth, NH - Onsite
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive EHS programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, FDA, ISO, and local regulatory requirements.
- Act as site Subject Matter Expert (SME) on EHS protocols, risk assessments, and compliance, including incident investigation, hazard analysis, and audit readiness.
- Lead cross-functional EHS initiatives, including chemical hygiene, industrial hygiene, emergency response, biological and chemical waste management, and ergonomics.
- Partner with Operations, QA, HR, and Facilities to ensure all employees are properly trained on GMP, EHS policies, SOPs, and site-specific procedures.
- Own the EHS training program, including content creation, LMS integration, scheduling, and compliance tracking.
- Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis, near-miss reporting, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) plans.
- Serve as primary liaison for internal and external EHS audits and inspections.
- Maintain and report on EHS KPIs and compliance metrics to senior leadership.
- Coordinate safety committees, toolbox talks, and other engagement programs to foster a strong safety culture.
- Manage contractors’ safety onboarding and field compliance for construction and maintenance activities.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and emerging industry best practices; implement updates proactively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Life Sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of EHS leadership experience in a GMP-regulated biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, or biotech environment.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, ISO 45001, and 14001, as well as local and state environmental health regulations.
- Experience developing and managing site-wide training and learning management systems (LMS).
- Demonstrated success managing audits, incident investigations, and compliance programs.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with a collaborative, hands-on approach.
- Proficiency in EHS software systems, training platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry)
- Train-the-Trainer or Instructional Design Certification
- Lean/Six Sigma Certification
