About the Role
The Engineering Manager, Metrology & ISO Standards, is responsible for managing the instructional delivery and technical oversight of the ATDM metrology program. This includes ensuring that students gain practical and theoretical proficiency in dimensional inspection, measurement science, and quality control systems aligned with ISO and defense manufacturing standards.
This position leads instructional staff, manages lab and metrology equipment, and supports the development of industry-aligned curriculum. The Engineering Manager is a key contributor to ensuring graduates are workforce-ready, technically competent, and meet the precision and compliance demands of the defense industrial base.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage metrology instructors and technicians to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction aligned with workforce demands.
• Oversee calibration lab equipment and ensure it meets ISO/IEC 17025 and other relevant standards.
• Guide the development and continuous improvement of curriculum focused on precision measurement, inspection techniques, GD&T, and quality systems.
• Promote integration of measurement science and quality control principles into hands-on learning modules.
• Ensure safe and compliant operation of metrology and inspection labs.
• Provide subject matter expertise in dimensional inspection, calibration, statistical process control, and ISO compliance.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies based on performance data and industry feedback.
• Collaborate with other ATDM Engineering Managers to support interdisciplinary alignment and student success.

We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate
• Bachelor’s degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• At least 2 years of experience in metrology, inspection, quality control, or technical instruction.
• Working knowledge of measurement tools (CMM, micrometers, calipers, etc.) and inspection software.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, or similar standards.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to guide instructional teams and ensure training quality.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certification in quality or inspection (e.g., ASQ CMI or CQI).
• Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment or defense industry.
• Experience developing curriculum or training programs related to metrology and quality assurance.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard.
- Must be able to move from building to building, with limited travel.
- Light physical work may be required.
- Some travel may be required.
