IT Modernization Consultant

KBR is seeking a results-driven IT Modernization Consultant to support large-scale digital transformation and sustainment initiatives within a federal civilian agency. This role requires a blend of technical delivery experience, business modernization insight, and agile project leadership, with demonstrated expertise in applying AI/GenAI solutions in federal environments.
The ideal candidate has experience leading the modernization of interdependent IT systems across cloud, infrastructure, and application domains, and can help shape enterprise technology transformation strategies through hands-on support and agile delivery execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply AI/GenAI capabilities to real-world federal use cases, driving innovation, automation, and mission alignment.
- Lead modernization efforts across enterprise-level federal IT systems, including system transitions, digital transformation, and acquisitions.
- Manage sustainment and evolution of interconnected platforms and applications while supporting IT governance and compliance objectives.
- Translate core agency missions into actionable modernization strategies through roadmap development and agile planning.
- Support cross-functional teams in driving modernization efforts using agile methodologies and best practices.
- Document architecture decisions, transformation plans, and sustainment activities with transparency and traceability.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and optimization in both legacy and modernized environments.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience implementing AI/GenAI initiatives in DHS or another U.S. federal agency.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in IT modernization, enterprise systems development, or federal technology transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level IT systems development, sustainment, modernization, or transformation efforts in the federal sector.
- Background in roles such as software sustainment, IT project management, or IT modernization.
- Certifications (All are REQUIRED):
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification
- AI certification (e.g., Azure AI Fundamentals or equivalent)
- PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner)
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- Clearance: Must obtain a Public Trust prior to start.
- Communication: Must have strong communication skills to support engagement with technical teams and present effectively during oral presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting IT transformation efforts at federal civilian agencies such as DHS, GSA, or Treasury.
- Familiarity with agile transformation, digital services delivery, and low-code/no-code environments.
- Understanding of federal acquisition processes, IT compliance requirements, and modernization playbooks (e.g., Cloud Smart, FedRAMP, TIC 3.0).
- Candidate Profile:
- Trusted advisor and modernization strategist with the ability to lead execution while guiding long-term digital transformation.
- Comfortable working across technical and business domains, bridging mission needs with IT modernization solutions.
- Highly collaborative, organized, and impact-focused, with a proven record of federal IT delivery.
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts. STANDARD KBR REQUIREMENTS:
