Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI, three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].
The Role
You will be the subject matter expert for multiple advanced manufacturing technologies such as Additive Manufacturing, Flex Fab sheet metal forming, etc. and will enable their use within components and sub-systems across all of vehicle and propulsion systems engineering. You will provide technical leadership of product applications from idea generation through part or tool manufacturing and deployment, with emphasis on proactive, upfront solutioning within the global vehicle development process. You will lead and coordinate the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies as ”off-the-shelf” mainstream executions at GM, aligned with the corporate strategic roadmap. This role is for an Application Engineer in the Advanced Manufacturing Product Integration team. In this position, you will be responsible for identification, development, and implementation of product applications of advanced manufacturing processes like Additive Manufacturing and Flex Fab metal forming.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Lead or support activities to identify product and tooling applications of various advanced manufacturing technologies for serial production, pre-production prototype, service, accessories, or motorsports needs across all areas of the vehicle and propulsion systems

Provide technical support to the functional teams implementing part and tooling projects using such technologies. Technical knowledge must span the whole process value stream, including design, analysis, material selection, and manufacturing process for multiple modalities in polymers, metals, and other materials.

Support business case development for advanced manufacturing applications, including detailed cost analysis

Lead development and implementation of advanced manufacturing application within Bill of Material (BOM) row strategies, pre-production vehicle builds, and serial production executions.

Lead proactive, upfront solutioning of advanced manufacturing production applications within the global vehicle development process and support execution through start of vehicle production

Support advanced manufacturing corporate strategy development and execution. This may include leading Flex Fab application strategy development (roadmap).

Educate the organization on advanced manufacturing technologies through training development and delivery

Lead/Support Advanced Technology Work (ATW) & other innovation projects to mature capability

Coordinate with strategic partners (industry, academia, equipment makers, etc.) to enable capability growth

Monitor market for competitive intelligence, and for new/emerging manufacturing technologies

Partner with Manufacturing Engineering counterparts to productionize manufacturing processes and procedures
