Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Cole Engineering Center in Warren MI, three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
GM Defense (GMD) is a dynamic and exciting growth opportunity within General Motors! Within GMD, the Purchasing organization is responsible for providing aftermarket support to our defense industry customers to ensure customer satisfaction and business growth. As the Sustainment Buyer you will interface with the Integrated Product Support team, (IPS) the Sustainment Parts and Service Operations team owns execution of business processes in support of parts order fulfillment and service for GMD customers. The IPS Team plays a key role in defining the aftermarket parts and service strategy/operations and optimizing execution. The sustainment buyers roll is responsible for sourcing service parts and services on a regional and global basis. Primary responsibility is to develop, negotiate and implement sourcing strategies by working with key stakeholders and requires preparing and completing sourcing recommendations to various levels of management while leading all Purchasing activities related to aftersales parts order fulfillment and service execution, both in and out of warranty, leveraging GM’s network of dealers as well as Field Service Representatives (FSRs).
What You'll Do:
- Determine viable suppliers for service parts requirements.
- Develop and manage suppliers under the guidance of Quality, Service, Technology, and Price strategies. This includes sound understanding of deadlines, required lead times, supplier contracts and application types.
- Active participation with key stakeholders, including IPS, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, CCA and Legal.
- Manage BIPO’s in support of sustainment part requirement with our internal GM partners.
- Adhere to corporate purchasing and accounting policies and procedures.
- Negotiate price, terms, and other items to complete full contract package.
- Utilize GMD GPSC Sourcing Process to manage Sourcing packages.
- Utilize GMD GPSC Sourcing Process (Request for Quotation, Analysis of Quotation, Source Selection) to establish a capable/competitive supply base.
