Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the Milford Proving Ground - Bldg 70 - Durability Test, Corrosion, Media Prep, Shuttle, Puma, at least three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategically minded OTA Quality and Triage Staff Engineer to lead enterprise-wide efforts in Over-the-Air (OTA) software update performance, triage, and quality assurance. This critical role will drive the technical resolution of OTA-related issues across all current and emerging vehicle platforms, ensuring robust, secure, and efficient software deployment to millions of vehicles.
As the automotive industry shifts toward Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), OTA capability has become essential for keeping vehicles updated frequently and securely. This role demands a deep understanding of the end-to-end OTA architecture, including embedded software development, reflash mechanisms, system integration, and customer experience.
The OTA Quality and Triage Staff Engineer will also manage the technical deployment of OTA software features across the VIP and SDV portfolios, leading integration, troubleshooting, data analysis, and systems execution to ensure first-time quality and rapid issue resolution. The successful candidate will be a technical leader capable of navigating complex systems and driving cross-functional collaboration across internal departments and external partners.
Key collaborators include CIEs/PLSIEs, Software Integration, OTA Deployment, Vehicle Teams, Software Quality, Microprocessor and ECU Hardware teams, and Component & Subsystem Development. The role also supports ongoing innovation in testing methodologies, automation, and tooling—enabling more efficient software understanding, deployment, and convergence across platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead triage and investigation of failures/issues from Over-the-Air Software Updates (FOTA/MOTA/uOTA) — the cornerstone of this role. This includes monitoring update performance, identifying failure conditions, and driving root cause analysis across vehicle platforms.
- Lead/support creation, PRC, root cause, resolution, read across, verification test plans, and feedback of Vehicle Programming PRTSs stemming from OTA and related subsystem components.
- Apply deep knowledge of reflash protocols across various controllers and vehicle components to troubleshoot and resolve functionality issues, with a strong emphasis on understanding specifications, protocols, and customer experience to inform requirement development.
- Drive the evolution of quality assurance testing from vehicle-level validation to bench and virtual environments, enabling scalable and efficient OTA validation across platforms.
- Design and develop OTA integration and automation frameworks for quality checks, including stress testing, multi-cycle validation, and robustness verification using tools such as Python, Selenium, CAPL, and AUTOBOT.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of OTA triage experts, supporting issue investigation, log analysis, PRTS ownership, dashboard development, and readiness activities across programs and global initiatives.
- Ensure deep understanding and visibility into the full cycle of an OTA event — from software creation and deployment to in-vehicle execution, customer experience, and post-event diagnostics — to drive holistic quality and system readiness.
- Collaborate with software integration, deployment, ECU DREs, and component teams to ensure OTA issues are addressed in requirements, test cases, and CGs.
- Lead the creation of OTA triage training and capability development across the organization.
- Support strategic initiatives such as Development Update Standard Work, VESCOM Verification, CAT6 Status, PQRR Readiness, and SDV2.0 enhancements.
- Ensure cybersecurity and data integrity in OTA update processes, including secure connectivity and package validation.
- Serve as the technical lead for the OTA “Everywhere” Quality Exposure Initiative — drive early and frequent OTA integration across GVDP milestones and the software release process, making OTA part of development standard work.
- Leverage automation tools such as OSAT (OTA Staging Automation Tool) to scale development software deployments, enabling rapid, multi-vehicle OTA updates across development properties and reducing manual effort.
