Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Mountain View, CA, Detroit, MI or Washington D.C. three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
The Portfolio Lead is responsible for a defined portfolio of grants and partnerships, directly accountable for shaping investment strategies that align with GM’s philanthropic vision and enterprise goals. Operates with a high degree of autonomy to design, implement, and evaluate partnerships that advance community outcomes while strengthening GM’s business and brand.
What You'll Do:
- Design and execute strategies for a portfolio of philanthropic investments in STEAM, Road Safety, and/or Place-Based initiatives.
- Build and manage relationships with nonprofit partners, policymakers, industry leaders, and community stakeholders.
- Ensure portfolio alignment with GM’s enterprise priorities, brand positioning, and policy objectives.
- Develop clear goals, metrics, and reporting frameworks to measure and communicate impact.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and thought leadership within and across portfolios.
- Partner with internal teams — including Policy, Communications, Brand, and Engineering — to amplify the reach and relevance of investments.
- Stay informed on sector trends, funding landscapes, and best practices to continually strengthen GM’s philanthropic approach.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- 7+ years in philanthropy, policy, nonprofit management, or leading complex initiatives or portfolios in any sector — e.g., corporate, tech, consulting
- Experience designing and managing complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate qualitative and quantitative data.
- Exceptional relationship management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with STEAM, Road Safety, or related policy areas preferred.

Compensation:
- The salary range for this role is $89,700 – $149,300. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
