The Opportunity
KBR is driving a Digital Engineering strategy to manage complexity, harness our technical capability, and deliver speed to capability for Defence. This strategy enables advanced digital environments and facilities to support Defence programs, including the development, hosting, and integration of systems as models, architectures, and digital twins.
As a Systems Architect, you will play a pivotal role in both execution and enablement. You’ll work with domain specialists and stakeholders to capture and model concepts, requirements, and designs for major Defence programs such as C4ISREW, MILSATCOM, Space and other critical capabilities. Responsibilities include developing and sustaining MBSE architectures using tools like CATIA Cameo, Enterprise Architect, or ANSYS, undertaking mission engineering through mission threads and scenarios, and applying modelling and simulation across the lifecycle to ensure traceability from requirements through to verification.
You will also help grow KBR’s Digital Engineering Infrastructure, including the Systems Integration Laboratory and collaborative virtual network environments. This involves engaging with clients and stakeholders to mature facilities and capability. Strong technical knowledge of Defence platforms, applications, and systems will be highly valued, alongside an understanding of emerging technologies such as AI/ML, digital twins, and cloud platforms.
This role requires collaboration, innovation, and technical leadership to drive growth and capability across KBR’s Australian Defence and Security Solutions business.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
Develop and integrate Mission Engineering Models and Simulations using Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) digital modelling and simulation tools in execution of the KBR Digital Engineering Strategy. These activities will be undertaken both during the capture and execution phases.
Define End to End Architecture solutions aligned to technology standards and roadmaps and strategies in response to business requirements.
Grow capability enablement maturity through collaboration with the team of the KBR Digital Engineering Project. This may involve input to design of environments, development of models, guidance or reports.
Analyse and evaluate and if necessary, validate externally sourced models and integrated them into the System or Enterprise framework.
Enhance KBR Digital Engineering Knowledge Base for execution through delivery of model or environment artefacts, configuration scripts and enhancements to support reuse or adoption.
Undertake stakeholder engagement and collaboration with defence clients, project teams, and industry partners to define system architecture strategies and technical roadmaps.
Manage the configuration and databases appropriate for the digital engineering toolchains, including Requirements Management, Windchill PLM, MBSE, simulation, and data analytics platforms.
Ensure architectural solutions comply with appropriate defence standards (e.g., ASDEFCON, MIL-STD-881, ISO/IEC 15288) and cybersecurity protocols.
Gather and evaluate user feedback and recommend and execute improvements to models and support changes to environments.
Analyse interfaces and integrate supplier and customer models into overall system or enterprise frameworks.
Create technical documentation and deliver reporting on the status and capability of the modelling activity.
Support the enhancement and deployment of Digital Engineering environment, including infrastructure, applications and services.
