Job Description: As a Mainframe z/OS System Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of our z/OS environments. You will work closely with application developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of our z/OS systems to meet business requirements effectively. Provide premium z/OS system programming support and services to Fiserv mainframe clients. The successful candidate will perform mainframe z/OS operating System upgrades using SMPE and z/OS workflows, ISV product upgrades/maintenance apply for z/OS compatibility to support our customers mainframe environments and ensure contractual obligations are met. The individual will need to work with vendor personnel to achieve timely upgrades of z/OS, ISV products before end of support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expertise with z/OS, SMP/E, Monitoring and Problem Solving Tools, Parallel Sysplex, z/VM, DC move, Hardware migration.
- Perform standard system programming activities like configuration, installation & maintenance using SMP/E, and vendor software installations in the mainframe environment.
- Support other team: storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking, and operating procedures from z/OS perspective.
- Work with Mainframe System Programmers staff across tracks to enhance the mainframe environment.
- Participate in software (ISVs and z/OS) deployments and various support functions as defined by the department manager.
- Possess interpersonal skills needed to foster good relations with business and development users.
- Assist team members to solve problems, make innovative improvements and make decisions.
- Identify and implement system and process improvements in the z/OS environment Work with application support teams and other internal customers to facilitate business initiatives.
- Review and Approve documentation of system software products including usage instructions, configuration notes, test plans, details of customizations necessary for our environment, as well as process and procedure guide
Qualifications:
- 10 + years of professional work experience as a Mainframe System Programmer in z/OS & ISVs.
- Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience.
- Mainframe Certifications / Badges is an added advantage
Technical key skills (Mandatory skills)
- Expertise in performing SMP/E and Non-SMPE Installation of ISV products)
- Operating system z/OS upgrades workflow execution.
- JES2 initialization
- Sysplex and config management (good to have)
- Fluent in JCL and IBM Utilities (IEBGENER/IEBCOPY/AMASPZAP/DFDSS)
- ISPF/TSO and other basic
- Basic knowledge of REXX/CLIST
- Designing project plan(upgrades, maintenance, decom) with task list for all stakeholders and communicating the timelines with delivery and customer.
- Formulate roadmaps with all pre-requisites to achieve a project completion.
- Technically guide a team of highly motivated system programmers with technical working sessions.
- Easy to learn new way of working on modernized environment (z/OS mf, ZOWE, Open Mainframe)
Good to have skills
- Possess the drive and self-motivation to sharpen current skills while also learning something new
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word)
- Possess a conceptual or practical understanding of or have a willingness to learn various technologies including but not limited to Mainframe, Open Systems, Networking, etc.
