Amentum is seeking a part-time wastewater treatment plant operations assistant to support operations in Erie County, PA. The position will be based out of our Pittsburgh, PA Office.
The part-time assistant plant operator responsibility for this position is to work with the primary operator to maintain and support the operation, monitoring, maintenance and repair activities at two (2) operating groundwater recovery and treatment plants in Erie County, PA. The position will be based at the Erie, PA treatment plant located in Millcreek Twp., Erie, PA, which serves as the primary treatment plant location. The other treatment plant is located in Edinboro, PA. These treatment plants operate continuously, and the part-time position is anticipated to include scheduled weekend work and up to two (2) weekdays per week, to provide overlapping work schedule with the primary plant operator.
Weekly support (0.5 day) at the treatment plant located in Edinboro, PA will also be required and include similar operation and maintenance activities as the Millcreek plant; mileage between the plants is reimbursable. The current established work breakdown includes a minimum of 20-hrs per week for the assistant operator position. Work on holidays will be coordinated between the primary and assistant operator as daily oversight of the plant operation is required.
The treatment plants consist of groundwater extraction systems, equalization tanks, inclined plate clarifiers, air stripper towers, filter presses, cartridge filtration units, and other treatment equipment. The position requires the operators to perform routine system maintenance, perform system monitoring, collect samples, perform basic routine chemical screening / analyses, maintain detailed system records, and perform assigned duties in accordance with the plant permits and O&M plans.
Specific duties for the position will include operating, maintaining, and repairing various electric and pneumatic systems and motors, pumps, compressors, valves, filters, flow meters, and other related equipment. The primary operator will work closely with the assistant operator to achieve the effective and efficient operation of the treatment plants and associated recovery systems. Data collection and computerized data entry will be required. The position will also include maintaining the site property, performing duties such as grass cutting and weed removal from fence lines.
The ideal candidate will have 1-5 years of experience in treatment plant operations, the environmental remediation field, or associated technician experience. Salary will be commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications. The position will require OSHA Hazardous Work Operations Training (40-hr) and the ideal candidate will be required to possess or obtain a PA Class C Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s License (or higher) within two (2) years of employment start date. OSHA training will be provided to the selected candidate as necessary.
- High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must have completed OSHA 40-hour training (will be provided as necessary).
- Experience with the O&M of various mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment as related to water treatment facilities.
- Possess basic computer skills & have knowledge of MS Office (specifically Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Must have the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and be able to work in protective clothing, including a respirator.
- Must understand and follow project-specific safety protocols in accordance with company policies & procedures
