About the Opportunity
Are you ready to shape some of the most complex infrastructure programmes in the UK? At Amentum, we’re delivering nationally significant projects that require precision, structure, and strong planning leadership.
We’re looking for a Planning Manager who combines technical excellence with a collaborative mindset – someone who confidently owns project schedules, leads meaningful discussions, and keeps teams focused on what truly drives delivery.
Whether you're an experienced Senior Planner ready to take the next step, or an established Planning Manager looking to apply your expertise in a high-impact, secure environment – this role offers the opportunity to lead, influence, and grow in a complex but rewarding industry.
You’ll be part of a growing team delivering complex, high-value infrastructure projects for clients in regulated and secure sectors. Working closely with Project Managers, PMO Leads and other key stakeholders, you’ll provide the schedule insights and controls that underpin successful project delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing, maintaining, and assuring detailed project schedules using Primavera P6
Ensuring accurate cost- and resource-loading to support earned value and performance management
Monitoring progress, managing baselines, and conducting critical path, scenario, and change impact analyses
Supporting governance reviews, milestone tracking, and risk mitigation activities
Leading the planning service across allocated projects, including managing planning teams of varying sizes
Performing full line management duties, including performance reviews, resource planning, and staff development in line with Amentum’s competency framework
Coaching and mentoring junior planners to strengthen team capability and support career progression
Supporting change control processes, reviewing early warnings, and advising on time-related contract mechanisms
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure planning outputs align with project objectives and contract requirements
Contributing to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of planning best practices across the wider business
You’ll be part of a professional planning community supported by the Head of Planning, with opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, planning standards, and mentoring.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
We’re looking for someone who’s not just great with programmes and schedules, but also with people. You’ll need to communicate clearly, plan methodically, and bring energy and accountability to your work.
Proficient with Primavera P6 (including extracting and managing schedule data for reporting), and MS Project
Experience working in regulated sectors (e.g. defence, nuclear, transport)
Delivery Management: Maintaining high-quality planning outputs across project lifecycles. Proven ability to develop programmes from first principles, applying accurate logic and methodology. Awareness of data visualisation tools such as Power BI. Good understanding of NEC contract planning requirements. Strong planning experience on complex construction or infrastructure projects across different project lifecycle stages
Collaboration & Influence: Building strong relationships and providing clear advice to project teams
Problem Solving & Improvement: Identifying challenges early and helping shape solutions
Leadership & Development: Taking ownership of your work and supporting others to grow
Governance & Assurance: Ensuring planning outputs meet internal and contractual requirements. Familiarity with risk and earned value reporting
Degree or professional qualification in a relevant field (e.g. APM, PMI, CIOB)
This role is structured to help you progress through our planning career pathway, with support from your manager and access to development tools.
Any offer of employment will be strictly subject to the relevant security requirements for the role being met. This means that you will need to have, or be able to obtain, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance and either Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. The security clearance process may require non-British nationals or dual nationals (i.e. those with British and another nationality) to be subject to additional evaluation, depending on nationalities held and the nature of the work to be carried out
