CNC Milling Operator – Gear & Pinion Production
Location: South Milwaukee, WI
Shift: 2nd Shift (Full-Time)
Bonus: $2,000 Sign-On & Retention Bonus
Pay Progression
- Step 1: $32.17/hr
- Step 2: $33.51/hr
- Step 3: $34.85/hr
- Shift Premium: +$1.00/hr for 2nd shift

Caterpillar is hiring experienced CNC Gear Machinist with experience producing high-quality gears and pinions for heavy equipment to join our manufacturing team in South Milwaukee, WI.

At our South Milwaukee facility, you’ll be part of a team that builds some of the largest and most powerful mining machines in the world. This facility specializes in the production of Cat® Electric Rope Shovels (ERS) used in mining operations around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC milling centers to machine gear teeth and pinions to tight tolerances
- Load and align workpieces using fixtures, chucks, clamps, and cranes
- Assemble cutting tools using holders, milling cutters, and indexable inserts
- Load CNC programs and perform trial runs to verify accuracy
- Adjust machine parameters such as feed rate, speed, and offsets
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools
- Make program edits and manual adjustments as needed
- Clean and deburr finished parts, ensuring quality and readiness for next steps
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of hands-on CNC milling experience
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and part drawings
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools (verniers, calipers, micrometers)
- Understanding of G & M code programming
- Basic knowledge of machine shop math, including trigonometry
- Familiarity with machine shop practices and terminology
- Demonstrated safe work history
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in gear manufacturing
- Knowledge of gear tooth geometry and gear quality inspection
- Familiarity with Siemens controls and CNC interfaces
- Experience operating DMG Mori milling machines

Summary Pay Range:
$32.17 - $40.22
