Job Summary Details: The Zero Waste Groundskeeper is part of the Grounds and Litter Patrol Team at Towson University dedicated to maintaining a clean, sustainable, and welcoming campus environment. This role is crucial for upholding the university's commitment to sustainability and waste management. The ideal candidate will actively participate in zero-waste initiatives, engage with the campus community, and ensure that all grounds are free from litter and waste.
Pay: $18/hr. The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Basic Qualifications: • Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a valid Driver's License
• Experience of Strong understanding of sustainability and zero waste principles.
Preferred Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in waste management is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to engaging with the campus community.
- Similar work experience preferred
Key Responsibilities:
1. Waste Management:
- Operate company vehicles to transport waste, waste receptacles, and equipment between various locations on campus as needed
- Regularly pull waste from designated trash cans and ensure they are emptied efficiently.
- Collect litter and waste from various areas across the campus grounds, ensuring cleanliness in all public spaces.
2. Zero Waste Initiatives:
- Participate in clean-up efforts for zero waste events, ensuring all materials are managed according to sustainability best practices.
- Respond to zero waste requests as directed, supporting the university’s sustainability goals.
- Understand and promote the zero waste and sustainability culture at Towson University among peers and the campus community.
3. Contamination Reporting:
- Monitor dumpster areas for contamination; report any issues to the supervisor and take corrective action as needed.
- Ensure proper sorting of waste to minimize contamination and enhance recycling efforts.
4. Maintenance and Cleanliness:
- Clean and maintain trash cans and recycling bins to ensure they are always hygienic and presentable.
- Keep dumpster areas free from litter and debris, promoting a clean environment around waste disposal sites.
5. Engagement and Education:
- Demonstrate engagement and enthusiasm for zero waste events, waste management, and sustainability practices on campus
- Participate in training sessions related to sustainability initiatives and waste management.
- When handling waste, follow the procedures as trained by the zero-waste manager. If you forget any of these protocols while performing your duties, please inform your supervisor or manager to ensure proper waste handling on campus
6. Attention to Detail:
- Demonstrate a keen attention to detail in all aspects of waste management, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and university policies.
- Maintain accurate records of waste collection activities and report any significant observations to the supervisor.
7. Garage Maintenance:
- Blowing leaves and debris from garages, particularly during the fall season, to ensure all garages remain clean and clear.
- Regularly inspect and maintain cleanliness in garages, addressing any additional issues as needed.
8. Elevator and Stairwell Cleaning:
- Clean and maintain stairwells, ensuring they are free of dirt and debris.
- Clean elevators regularly, focusing on high-contact areas such as buttons, walls, and handrails to ensure there are no fingerprints or smudges.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to perform manual labor, including bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed outdoors and may require exposure to inclement weather.
- Potential exposure to hazardous waste materials; appropriate training will be provided.
