ESSCA Team Leads serve as first line supervisors and oversee the Task Orders and contractor teams that support the requirements defined in the ESSCA Performance Work Statement, plus any additional skills that may be required to execute the ESSCA contract with NASA MSFC. The Team Leads ensure that high performing people are acquired through disciplined human resources processes and are appropriately trained, developed, and perform to Amentum’s policy and standards. Team Leads are responsible for the proactive management of tasks and personnel to ensure effective accomplishment of MSFC requirements. The Team Leads serve a critical role within ESSCA and successful candidates for this role must highly desire to serve as a leader for high performing technical teams.
Duties of the Team Lead position include:
• Leading a strong and high performing team that succeeds in delighting the government customer and ESSCA management.
• Ensuring excellent customer relations and harmonious team dynamics and operations. Facilitate coordination, communication, and collaboration with other Team Leads, Teammate Principals, ESSCA management, and NASA customers.
• Providing oversight of individual and team technical performance. This may include directly supporting tasks as an individual team member, providing technical expertise in a specific discipline, establishing and implementing processes in the ESSCA Performance Management System (EPMS), and confirming the technical quality of the work products generated by team.
• Implementing the ESSCA safety program within the team and lead by example in our SafeUp culture.
• Driving employee awareness and commitment to personal safety, mission success, and customer satisfaction.
• Ensuring that tasks and subtasks are written and estimated correctly such that technical, schedule, and financial performance meet customer expectations.
• Identifying and managing risk in cost, technical, or schedule to ensure accomplishment of Task Order requirements, ESSCA goals and objectives, and the ASED annual business plan.
• Performing employee hiring functions to meet team staffing requirements through defining the position requirements, conducting candidate recruiting, interviewing, and selection as well as performing on-boarding orientation activities.
• Assisting with the development of individual employee goals and objectives to help the employees achieve their career goals.
• Conducting performance evaluations and supporting employee disciplinary processes if needed.
• Collaborating with Department Management to assign and develop lead personnel for each Task Order or subtask as appropriate.
• Implementing the ESSCA awards and recognition program and provide positive team morale.
• Reviewing and approving employee travel, training requests, and associated expense reports.
• Establishing and overseeing specialty subcontracting requirements in collaboration with the ASED Business and Finance Office to include coordination of task assignments and subcontractor performance. Developing subcontractor Statements of Work and managing subcontractor support.
• Actively work with ESSCA and MSFC personnel to explore potential new work areas and develop new task scope in conjunction with our Amentum Solutions initiative.
• In coordination with the Capabilities Enhancement Department, train and develop employees through on-the-job training, strategic technical assignments, peer-to-peer training, classes, etc.
• Forecasting future resources, skills, and development needs in collaboration with Department Management to efficiently manage and train the workforce for maximum flexibility and capabilities.
• Leveraging broad experience and familiarity to effectively apply the technologies and tools used in technical discipline.
• Supporting ASED leadership communication, sharing, and development of best practices for MSFC and across ESSCA.
• Conducting special projects as assigned by Department Manager or Office of Program Manager.
• Applying analytical, design, and test tools to provide state-of-art capability to MSFC and consistency across ESSCA.
A Bachelors Degree in a scientific, engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution and a minimum of 5 years of experience in technical discipline. An MS or Ph.D. degree is very desirable.
Outstanding technical and leadership qualifications in one or more of the following areas are required:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
• Skills and experience in a mechanical or aerospace engineering discipline with specific emphasis on Mechanical Design, CAD, Finite Element Analysis, Engineering Drawings, GD&T, and Configuration Management.
• Technical leadership or engineering management in an aerospace or mechanical engineering discipline.
• Demonstrated skills in the areas of technical management or systems management as needed to support MSFC programs and projects.
• Broad customer and professional network in a field of technical expertise.
• Participation in professional society, e.g. AIAA, ASME, IEEE, NSBE, SHPE, SWE, etc.
Essential Functions
Work Environment
Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%)
Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
