Director, Data Strategy & Governance
The Director, Data Strategy & Governance will have responsibility for developing and delivering the enterprise data strategy. In this capacity, they will be the functional lead for the enterprise data strategy, collaborating with business stakeholders and the data practitioner community to define business needs and translating those needs into process, technology, and training requirements to ensure Comerica's data can be used as strategic assets. They will serve as business sponsor on enterprise-wide efforts to deliver on those requirements in close conjunction with IT, learning and development, business process, change management and other critical stakeholders.
The Director, Data Strategy & Governance will define and implement a data governance framework to ensure the appropriate use, management and protection of sensitive data and information assets and ensure compliance at the enterprise, business, and functional areas. To support the enterprise's broad base of casual and expert users, the Director, Data Strategy & Governance will oversee shared data services on behalf of Comerica to support the broad consumption and effective management of high-quality data.
Position Responsibilities
Data Strategy and Architecture
- Establish and execute an enterprise data strategy roadmap, including strategic priorities for business lines with the development of information-based capabilities.
- Serve as the functional liaison between business and functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for the protection and use of information assets are defined.
- Sponsor and oversee process, technology and information initiatives that deliver on defined business information requirements.
- Lead delivery of common consumption patterns, automated information assets and scaled reports and dashboards to support business needs in collaboration with technology and enterprise data product owners.
- In partnership with CDAO Data Product Management and IT, develop and maintain information architecture data models, including a list of authoritative systems, data owners and stewards.
Data Governance
- Develop and execute a framework for data quality, metadata management and business rules around master data management.
- Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Oversee adoption of and adherence to governance policies, standards, and guidelines across the enterprise.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Risk, CISO and other line of defense functions to support information protection and risk mitigation strategies.
Enterprise Shared Services
- As the functional lead of data strategy and governance, develop a shared services program to support common enterprise information needs, including shared enterprise reporting and data quality issue remediation.
- Develop a staff augmentation and managed services program to help scale data usage and broader analytical support.
- Through the delivery of an enterprise data strategy, develop an approach for the managed exchange of certified information assets for broad enterprise use.
Financial Oversight
- Oversees project execution portfolio to ensure business and technology initiative spend is aligned with strategic data priorities.
- Allocates internal and outsourced budget to support learning, development and change management efforts advancing enterprise use of information as a strategic asset.
Leadership and Development
- Create and nurture teams of teams with shared goals and objectives, while retaining and attracting top talent.
- Ensures teams have strong business acumen, technical skills and an ability to understand data in business context
- Ensures the continuous development and advancement of technical skills and capabilities among teams through on-going coaching, mentoring and fostering an environment of continuous learning.
- Directs and manages staff performance and development processes
Position Qualifications
Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, Math or other relevant degree, or in lieu of a bachelor's 6 years of experience directly related to the role, for example setting data strategy and overseeing enterprise-wide date governance
- 10 years in leading large, complex/critical technology projects
- 5 years in leading scaled data strategy initiatives
- 5 years of knowledge in data governance best practices
- 5 years in managed services/outsourcing oversight
- 3 years of experience in product management

Category B - 3-4 days in office on designated days/1-2 days remote
