Job Description Summary
The Obsolescence Engineer is responsible for ensuring all business requirements, from both internal and external customers, relating to the performance of GEAS products are satisfied in a timely manner.
The Obsolescence engineer will lead and facilitate the use of various obsolescence processes and tools, striving towards standardised process implementation across the business supporting the PBL projects, which includes support to forecasting future business opportunities, modelling proposals, spares provisioning, contract support and FRACAS.
The obsolescence engineer also plays a significant role in assessing product performance to support our customers through reporting and proactive trending and early identification of issues.

Roles and Responsibilities
Support the BAE and LH PBL product portfolios through the use of appropriate problem solving techniques and processes to provide: -
- Regular rhythm for platform obsolescence/reliability reporting for military product, using data from a variety of sources, with a keen eye for detail and methodical approach.
- Perform analysis to include categorisation, statistical calculation (MTBF/MTBUR), failure modes and identification of significant issues affecting product performance
- Monitoring of product performance issues through use of an early warning system to alleviate potential increased warranty and repair cost burden to the business, whilst supporting the customer’s need for reliable product.
- Standardise the business’s reliability analysis methods and implement the necessary tools and process to drive simplicity, efficiency and accuracy.
- Responsible for reporting and presenting reliability data to a variety of stakeholders including customers.
- Conduct product obsolescence reviews and provide recommendations
Work with the Programs and Engineering teams to:
- Provide regular feedback on current status, potential issues and risks to completion.
- Provide technical analysis and support relating to product obsolescence within a contract.
- Provide detailed reliability statistics to support future sales/modelling initiatives.
Develops and manages individual work plans/schedules and clearly communicates risk to completion in a timely manner.
Use of appropriate technical data to support obsolescence/reliability analysis and investigations.
Create, review and obtain/provide feedback on new and revised policies and procedures relating to the reliability and obsolescence.
Supports the investigation and collation of engineering hours required to support contract proposals.
Complies with import and export regulations in accordance with business and government legislation relating to data sharing, communication and technical discussions.
Communicate technical content to satisfy customer requests through the use of appropriate media (e.g. presentation) to a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
Required Qualifications
A degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, HNC or equivalent or similar level of knowledge and experience.
Knowledge and understanding of the Aerospace industry or Aviation products and experience performing reliability engineering activities.
Desired Characteristics
Core competence in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access, with the ability to adapt to a variety of IT tools.
Ability to drive improvements in efficiency
Technical Communication – presentation of technical information both verbal and written, adapting material for the target audience.
Program Management – Aware of the organisation and executions of projects and tasks to meet defined deliverables.
Customer Centric – Aware of customer requirements and translates into clear deliverables.
