Supervises daily dispatch operations and responsible for responding appropriate equipment or personnel to emergency and non-emergency calls for fire and emergency medical services as well as on call department services. Identifies and dispatches appropriate units; complies with USAP policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all public safety responders and the public. 
 
Position Responsibilities: 
 
Under the direct supervision of the fire chief, responsible for the supervision and operation of all communications and computer management for the Antarctic Fire Department.  This includes the day-to-day operation of the fire department dispatch center, including but not limited to; all base station, portable and mobile radios, computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, pagers both 9-1-1, and administrative phone lines, VHF radios and fire alarm receiving system. 
 
 
Supervises and performs operator maintenance on all base station, portable and mobile radios, computers, printers, copiers, fax machines and pagers. 
 
Coordinates, schedules, and monitors technical maintenance of all base station, portable and mobile radios, computers, printers, copiers, fax machines and pagers with appropriate technicians. 
 
Responsible for communicating with and monitoring emergency service personnel.  (Fire Fighters, SAR, fire Technicians, Medical staff, Spill Response personnel, etc.) 
 
Accurately and efficiently maintain various logs in a variety of formats.  (Software, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, Power Point programs, etc.) 
 
Interacts with the National Science Foundation, military, and other agency officials, both over the phone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner. 
 
Maintains knowledge of, and tracks, all outdoor recreational travel, including contacting SAR and the SAR Response Team when guidelines dictate.  
 
 
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses: 
 
Must hold a valid emergency dispatcher certification from APCO, NENA, or a state agency, and/or a DoD Telecommunicator I/II certification. 
 
Expected Skills and Competencies: 
 
Computer skills required, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail applications. Good judgment and exceptional communication skills.  
 
Physical and/or Other Requirements: 
 
 
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.  
 
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.  
 
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
