Role Definition
Provides leadership on guidance and advice on architecture designs in complex projects, resolves difficult problems and ensures that all deliverables meet high standards in quality.
Responsibilities
• Consult on best practices with junior staff in architecture planning, processes, data, infrastructure and application modeling.
• Architect solutions that align to business strategies and goals.
• Provide a systematic analysis on client requirements within the traceability framework and resolves any functional problems encountered.
• Oversee the quality of architecture project deliverables while ensuring that they are in compliance with relevant standards, processes and an enterprise view.

Core Application Systems: Knowledge of major production application systems used for delivery of services to internal and external clients; ability to leverage major production application systems in diverse situations.

• Leads in designing application architecture for core applications.
• Consults on conversion and retirement of core systems.

• Ensures that appropriate back-up, recovery, and contingency plans are in place for core applications.

• Consults on security issues and problems regarding application migration.
• Coaches others on the modernization approach for microservice based application.

Architecture Modeling: Knowledge of Architecture Modeling; ability to develop and modify enterprise architecture through conceptual, logical and physical approaches.

• Consults on architecture framework design; verifies operational objectives for each framework design procedure.
• Determines corresponding indicators for each technology layer and evaluates the operational performance of each layer.
• Decides on specific roles and responsibilities of engineers within business, information and data architecture modeling.
• Coordinates materials for architecture design modeling.
• Evaluates technology product roles and strengths within the project and locates appropriate technology providers based on results.
• Interprets relevant principles for technology architecture modeling requirements from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Business Assessment: Knowledge of the activities, tasks, practices and deliverables for assessing and documenting business opportunities; ability to assess the benefits, risks, and success factors of potential applications.
Level Expert:
• Consults to others on alternative approaches and tools for business assessments and selection processes.
• Leads in more complex business assessment reviews and walkthroughs for high-impact projects.
• Develops best practices for identifying and validating opportunities, risks and benefits analysis.
• Advises others on various methods, tools and practices for business assessment.
• Monitors industry and enterprise effectiveness and experiences; initiates improvements.
• Selects and standardizes business assessment tools and techniques across multiple methodologies.
System and Technology Integration: Knowledge of the features and facilities of systems; ability to integrate and communicate among applications, databases and technology platforms.

• Designs and develops applications or technology interfaces and bridges.
• Documents existing best practices for system or technology integration processes.
• Identifies and quantifies risks of proposed alternatives to a system or technology integration initiative.
• Delivers training on major issues, interfaces, considerations and potential pitfalls and risks.
• Discusses with line areas on data, technology and application integration issues.
• Advises others in how to integrate projects across multiple technologies.

Summary Pay Range:
$135,240.00 - $237,564.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
