Role:
The Transportation Manager oversees all aspects of transportation operations for the distribution center, cross-dock, and hub-branch network, ensuring seamless movement of goods through every stage of the supply chain. This includes planning, fleet management, vendor coordination, and compliance, with a strong focus on optimizing last-mile delivery to improve efficiency, cost savings, and customer satisfaction. The role bridges strategy and execution, making sure transportation systems support organizational goals and customer needs.
Main Job Duties:
- Direct daily transportation activities, including fleet management, dispatching, and coordination with third-party carriers.
- Ensure maintenance, inspection, and repair schedules are followed for all transportation assets.
- Manage contracts, service agreements, and relationships with transportation vendors and logistics partners.
- Implement technology systems for route planning, scheduling, and real-time visibility, including last-mile tracking and customer notifications.
- Identify operational gaps and implement improvements to increase efficiency across the distribution center, cross-dock, and hub-branch network.
- Prepare and manage the transportation budget, ensuring cost control and efficiency.
- Supervise and support transportation team, including drivers, office support and leads.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Experience with process improvement methodologies (lean, six sigma, etc.)
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience overseeing distribution centers, cross-dock facilities, or hub-and-spoke networks strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), fleet management software, and warehouse/distribution technology.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and Power BI.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA standards, and OSHA safety compliance.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Data analysis and reporting skills to track KPIs and improve performance.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing diverse teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to foster teamwork, collaboration, and accountability.
