MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented
Conservation Biologist to join our team in
Lompoc, CA. This is a full-time
onsite position.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Removal of non-native, invasive plants primarily via chemical and manual methods
- Instillation of native out planting and maintenance of irrigation systems
- Propagate and maintain native plants in a remote island greenhouse setting
- Monitor the success of restoration
- Perform surveys for threatened and endangered flora and fauna
- Navigate and map various plant species using GPS
- Identify maintenance needs of equipment, e.g., pumps, engines, trailers, and vehicles
- Travel up to 50%
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Biology, Ecology, or related Natural Resources field required
- 2+ years of experience with coastal California biological resources, specifically central and southern California coastal plant species and vegetation communities
- Possession of a California Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to identify common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout California
- Experience with dichotomous keys such as those in The Jepson Manual
- Experience in identifying common local vegetation types including both native and non-native plant species in a variety of habitats throughout California

Physical Requirements:
- Must be comfortable working outdoors and may be exposed to typical field hazards such as poison oak, ticks, and other nuisance species
- Office work entails stationary sitting positions up to 20% of the time
- Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer
- Must be able to move weight occasionally up to 50 lbs. at a time
- Must be able to traverse outdoors in rugged uneven terrain at night
- Must be able to operate 4WD and terrain vehicles occasionally trailering heavy loads
- Must be able to use handheld power equipment such as chain saws and brush cutters
