About the Role
GM Defense is seeking a highly skilled Architecture Systems Engineer (ASE) with a focus on Electrical Architecture to support the early-stage definition and integration of advanced vehicle systems for defense applications. This role is pivotal in translating complex government requirements into actionable system-level solutions for future GM Defense platforms.
As part of a fast-paced, cross-functional team, you will collaborate with domain experts across Electrical, Propulsion, Thermal, Survivability, Autonomous Systems, Body, Interior, and Chassis to architect full-vehicle solutions aligned with business development proposals. You’ll be instrumental in shaping the technical direction of new defense programs and special projects.
What You'll Do

Lead the system architecture definition for advanced electrical systems in defense vehicle platforms.

Translate government requirements into technical system solutions .

Partner with suppliers and internal teams to select technologies and define integration strategies.

Support component packaging and design studies to meet customer and mission requirements.

Develop vehicle strategies using COTS (Commercial-Off-The-Shelf) and custom components to optimize performance and cost.

Collaborate with product owners and program managers to align architecture with program goals.

Ensure compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and support security clearance processes.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field.

5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in defense or automotive systems.

Hands-on experience with electrical circuit boards (e.g., breadboarding, Arduino, robotics).

Strong understanding of AC theory (Power Factor, Rectifiers, Inverters).

Proven experience in Electrical/Electrification/High Voltage systems .

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in ambiguous environments.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across disciplines.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience with EMI/EMC design, mitigation, and testing .

Knowledge of Military Standards (MIL-STD) and defense industry practices.

Proficiency in INCA, Vspy, Simulink (5+ years preferred).

Experience with Capital Tools , wire schematics, and generating net lists.

Background in DRE, VSE, or Architecture roles .

Familiarity with manufacturing processes and engineering operations.

Understanding of Global A & B electrical/mechanical architecture .

Exposure to E3 (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects) analysis.

Experience in electrical component packaging and wiring harness design .

DFSS Black Belt certification and/or vehicle launch experience .
