We have an exciting opportunity for a
Gateway GN&C Performance Engineer to join the team with Bastion Technologies, a teammate company. This candidate who fills this position will work on the JETS Gateway GN&C and Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) Team providing GN&C performance evaluations and requirements verification of Gateway Space Station.
The selected applicant will:
- Verify GNC system requirements compliance through review of analysis and test reports, including assessment of navigation sensor performance, trajectory dispersions, and other GN&C parameters
- Verify fault tolerance safety requirements compliance through review of GN&C-related hazard reports and associated verification evidence. Communicate uncovered issues to a Safety Review Panel.
- Identify and recommend solutions to GN&C/Rendezvous & Proximity Operations performance issues
- Communicate status of compliance reviews to Gateway Program Management
- Conduct assessments on delivered Visiting Vehicle GN&C data
- Provide performance compliance feedback
- Provide Monte Carlo trajectory analyses feedback using independent 6DOF simulations
- Provide engineering inputs to operational products (flight rules and on-orbit demonstration plans)
- Maintain relationships with a diverse technical team, including personnel from engineering, safety, flight operations, crew office, and visiting vehicle providers
- Perform other duties as required
Requisition Qualifications:This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Experience with orbital mechanics and GN&C principles
- Knowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and analysis of spacecraft system performance
- Experience with design, verification, testing, and operation of GN&C hardware and software
- Experience with the development of space system requirements and documentation
- Strong interpersonal skills to enable successful performance in a collaborative environment
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
- Ability to prepare written documents for verbal presentation at engineering meetings
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office collaboration tools: Teams, Webex, SharePoint
Requisition Preferences
- MS in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on GN&C, flight controls, and orbital mechanics
- Familiarity with spacecraft docking systems
- Knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standards and requirements, including safety and fault tolerance
- Experience with NASA flight operations and procedures
- Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites
- Experience with LINUX, Python, and C++
- Experience with MATLAB and Simulink toolboxes
- Experience with NASA Trick simulation architecture
- Experience with JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics) modeling package
- Experience with Git/GitLab
