The Site Health and Safety Officer (SHASO) is an on-site position that ensures all elements of the
approved SHASPs are implemented and vigorously enforced.
The successful candidate reports to the Amentum FAA Program Manager and will support all health and safety aspects of a mature Superfund program providing Operation and Maintenance (O&M), GIS/sUAS services, and remedial construction services to the FAA. Typical responsibilities include.
Program resource for safety issues.
Plan, supervise and monitor compliance with all Corporate and Program specific plans and Federal, New Jersey, and local safety regulations.
Conduct hazard evaluations of jobs and processes and perform routine inspections of facilities and operations for unsafe conditions and work practices, and make recommendations to reduce / eliminate incident (re)occurrence.
Prepare and update project safety plans including master HASP, delivery-order specific plans, emergency response plans, respiratory protection plans, fall protection plans, air monitoring plans, confined space entry plans, and activity hazard analysis.
Conducts employee health and safety training including proper use of PPE, HAZCOM, blood borne pathogens, fire protection and prevention, potential hazards and required control measures, work practices associated with site conditions and operations, standard health and safety procedures, decontamination procedures, and emergency/contingency procedures.
Provides site emergency planning and contingency plan administration, program maintenance and surveillance, conducts site specific training and coordinates emergency response activities.
Conduct incident investigations and reporting.
Evaluate monitoring data including air, heat/cold stress, and noise to make field decisions regarding safety and health.
Review subcontractor safety qualifications and training documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of one (1) year’s working experience at hazardous waste sites where EPA Level C and Level B personal protective equipment is required.
High School Diploma
Specialized training in personal and respiratory protective equipment, program implementation, and in proper use of air monitoring instruments, air sampling methods, and interpretation of results.
Certified as having completed training in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross.
Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local occupational health and safety regulations.
40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with current 8-hour refresher training.
This position is a full-time position.
No clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in safety, health or industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering or demonstrated equivalent with minimum of 3 years of safety experience; OR an associate’s degree in safety, health or industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering or demonstrated equivalent with minimum of 5 years of safety experience; OR 7 years of safety experience.
Experience with implementation of USACE EM 385-1-1 safety regulations.
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor’s training.
Must have or be willing to obtain 30-hour OSHA safety certification.
Must have or be willing to obtain Safety Trained Supervisor certification offered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
Proficiency with MS Office and other safety software tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $90,000-$100,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
