What You Will Do
The Supplier Quality & Development Manager (SQDM) is a pivotal role within Supplier Management at Johnson Controls, focusing on Applied and Industrial Refrigeration service parts. This position is essential for driving improvements in Supplier performance, particularly in On Time Delivery and sustainable quality.
The main objective is to ensure consistent, high-performance delivery and quality from Suppliers supplying service and aftermarket parts. This includes developing and implementing processes and best practices to guarantee top-tier Supplier performance and enhanced customer satisfaction.
You will collaborate cross-functionally and globally to ensure that processes are established for failure prevention and mitigation in New Product Introduction (NPI) related to supplier-sourced components, while supporting NPI through the coordination of the Supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
You will monitor Supplier OTD, incoming quality performance, and lead root cause analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) for quality and delivery challenges, applying standard quality engineering principles and supply chain performance metrics.
As an SQDM, you will report directly to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain, North America (NA) Parts.
How You Will Do It
As a member of the NA Parts team, you will operate in a dynamic environment that offers significant exposure and influence while supporting various business units. Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring and analyzing supplier OTD performance, identifying trends, and spearheading initiatives for improving delivery reliability and responsiveness.
- Travelling to supplier locations for audits/assessments and addressing critical issues (travel may be up to 50%, including international), or completing assessments remotely when necessary.
- Developing and mentoring Quality Auditors, Quality Engineers, and Material Planners who interact with Suppliers and their functional leadership.
- Establishing a program to track and improve Supplier performance across multiple metrics – OTD, DPPM, Cost Recovery, and overall responsiveness.
- Collaborating with the NA Parts distribution center to pinpoint and address significant supplier quality issues.
- Partnering with key suppliers to implement a Supplier Performance Improvement Roadmap, focusing on Delivery, Quality, and Sustainability.
- Supporting the Parts Engineering & Quality team in resolving major warranty issues, utilizing advanced statistical analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- Facilitating the use of APQP with parts, manufacturing, and engineering functions to support supplier-related activities for new product launches, including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan development, capacity run rates, and other activities necessary for successful PPAP.
- Serving as a liaison between Procurement and Parts leadership to support supplier warranty and quality initiatives, including cost recovery.
- Acting as a Quality subject matter expert and conducting training on quality tools as required through scheduled supplier training events.
- Reviewing monthly and annually the quality issues of the top 5 global suppliers and the top 5 suppliers associated with the highest reject quality, most issues, and delivery problems. Communicating, recommending, and scheduling through Procurement Directors or Category Managers the suppliers required to attend a Management Quality Review (MQR).
Required
What we look for
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Management, or equivalent experience in Manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Supplier Quality or Supply Chain required.
- Strong oral, written, and listening communication skills.
- Demonstrated change management abilities, with proven team-building skills.
- A minimum of eight years of experience in a manufacturing or field service environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Willingness to travel up to approximately 50%, including international travel.
Preferred
- DMAIC (Blackbelt/Greenbelt) training, Lean manufacturing experience, problem-solving training, strong facilitation skills, and working knowledge of APQP techniques.
- ASQ CQE certification is desired.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $100,000-134,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
